Corrections Counselor 1 Job Title Corrections Counselor 1 Compensation $56,541.00 - $86,022.00 Annually Location Forest County, PA (Marienville, 16239) Employment Type Civil Service Permanent Full-Time Job Summary The Corrections Counselor 1 works with inmates at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Forest to motivate them toward personal growth and better decision making. The role focuses on counseling, casework, and guidance to help inmates adjust to institutional life and prepare for successful re‑entry. Responsibilities Conduct inmate interviews to support institutional adjustment and identify personal or family concerns. Compile case records including assessments, histories, evaluations, and documentation for effective case management. Provide guidance that encourages growth in social, educational, and vocational abilities. Coordinate treatment by working with staff to align programming, activities, and counseling with inmate needs. Assist with re‑entry planning: parole planning, secure identification, and reintegration services. Communicate with families, external agencies, and DOC staff regarding inmate progress. Work Schedule & Additional Information Full‑time employment, 40 hours per week. Work hours are 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55. Qualifications Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: Three years and six months as a corrections officer, and 18 college credits in sociology, counseling, psychology, social work, corrections, criminal justice, or related field. A bachelor’s degree plus 18 college credits in the same fields, or equivalent experience. Applicants considered educated if within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree. Special Requirements Obtain Commonwealth Law Enforcement Assistance Network (CLEAN) and Pennsylvania Justice Network (JNET) certification within two months of employment and maintain it for the duration of employment. Other Requirements Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA. Meet Pennsylvania residency requirement. Must be able to perform essential job functions.
