Airport Plumber - Austin Aviation

Overview The Airport Plumber reports to the Department of Aviation and provides advanced technical expertise on installation, maintenance, inspection, and repair of water plumbing systems in facilities owned by Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS). The role is performed under minimal supervision and relies on independent judgment to lead skilled technical tasks. Duties, Functions and Responsibilities Perform preventative maintenance, repairs, inspections and installations on all plumbing systems and components in the AUS terminal and remote facilities. Complete assigned work orders, including material preparation, quality inspections, and coordination of system outages. Plan, schedule, and assist with maintenance and repair activities performed by third‑party contractors. Diagnose complex plumbing problems involving grease inceptors, grease traps, lift stations, fire hydrants, back‑flow preventers, appliances, wash racks, water softeners, aircraft potable water cabinets, deicing pumps, motors, watering stations, and reclaim water devices. Operate various sewer machines, cameras, water‑jetters, pipe threading machines, pro‑press equipment and other power tools. Communicate with leadership regarding work order planning, status, and other issues as needed. Maintain records of plumbing equipment and system maintenance activities. Monitor, maintain, and ensure compliance with City of Austin, SPB, TCEQ, FDA, and other local, state, and federal regulations, policies, procedures, and ordinances; communicate concerns to personnel. Maintain Responsible Master Plumber (RMP) designation to enable plumbing personnel to secure required permits for AUS‑owned facilities. Provide leadership, assign work, evaluate performance, train, and guide staff. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of OSHA safety regulations. Knowledge of safety rules and procedures when working with energized plumbing equipment and systems. Knowledge of water system installation, maintenance, and repair methods, tools, and materials. Knowledge of construction procedures sufficient to plan and execute plumbing projects. Knowledge of water and wastewater pumps and lift stations. Knowledge of occupational hazards and applicable safety rules and regulations. Skill in oral and written communication. Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing. Skill in planning and organizing. Skill in using computers and related software. Skill in using hand tools and materials used in plumbing system maintenance and construction. Skill in tracing and analyzing causes of plumbing and heating problems. Ability to read, interpret, and modify blueprints, drawings, schematics, and diagrams. Ability to estimate time, materials, and costs of plumbing projects. Ability to work in confined spaces where entry and exit are limited or restricted. Ability to use anti‑fall body harnesses for confined space entry or when working from aerial lifts or bucket trucks. Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other City employees and the public. Minimum Qualifications High‑school diploma or equivalent. Five (5) years of experience in the installation and repair of plumbing fixtures and systems (gas, water, and steam), including at least one (1) year in a lead or supervisory capacity. Experience may substitute for education up to four (4) years of experience. Licenses and Certifications Required Valid State of Texas Master Plumber License. Valid State of Texas Class “C” Driver License. Valid TCEQ Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester Certification. Responsible Master Plumber (RMP) designation within 120 calendar days of hire. Other Requirements Position requires travel between various locations; must hold a valid Texas Class C driver license and meet City of Austin Driver Record Evaluation standards. Must be able to drive a City vehicle and operate on the AOA.
