Maintenance Operations, a branch of the Facilities Operations and Maintenance Division, provides comprehensive maintenance services in support of the University's operations.

Our teams provide a comprehensive array of qualified services, backed by our licensed and certified technicians, to this end, we offer opportunities for continuing education, as well as various stipends for additional trade licenses. Purpose

To perform journey level work in maintaining, repairing and installing plumbing systems that transport water, steam, natural and laboratory gasses, sewer, storm and drain water, chilled water, vacuum systems and related equipment and distribution systems.

Responsibilities

* Inspects, maintains, repairs, modifies, installs, and replaces building, laboratory, and other miscellaneous plumbing systems. Uses common piping materials such as copper, brass, black steel pipe, galvanized iron, cast iron, polyvinyl chloride, chlorinated polyvinyl chloride, polypropylene, etc.

* Locates and repairs leaks in common and specialty piping systems conveying various fluids and gases, including but not limited to domestic water, reclaimed water, wastewater, steam, laboratory gases, natural gas, and refrigerants. Various pipe sizes to 10 inches in diameter and pressures ranging up to 150 pounds per square inch.

* Performs preventive maintenance on building, laboratory and specialty plumbing systems and system components including pumps and controls. Utilizes instruments such as ultrasonic, temperature sensing, pressure and flow gauges. Includes working on electronic and pneumatic actuated valves, as well as replacing backflow prevention assemblies, and safety eye washes and showers.

* Clears drain blockages. Removes and replaces lavatory fixtures.

* Assists other technicians as needed in the accomplishment of shop goals related to key performance indicators. Participates in the On-Call program.

* Provides timely and courteous customer service, keeps supervisors up-to-date on daily work order status to ensure clear, concise, and necessary communication channels are maintained and customer expectations are met.

* Inspects completed work for conformance with specifications, requirements, and compliance with applicable building and safety codes and regulations.

* Reads blueprints, works from specifications, and follows instructions, both written and oral.

Required Qualifications

High school graduation or GED. Three years of experience as a journey level plumber. Licensed as a Journey Level Plumber from the State of Texas Board of Plumbing Examiners or able to achieve this level of licensure within 180 days. License must be maintained as a condition of continued employment. Demonstrated excellent communication skills. Demonstrated ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Demonstrated ability to adhere to safety rules and regulations.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited apprenticeship program or technical school. More than three years experience as a journey level plumber. Four years industrial plumbing experience related to the functions listed. Licensed as a Master Plumber in the State of Texas. Licensed as a Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester. Licensed as a Customer Service Inspector. Experience at the University of Texas or in a university setting. Experience in more than one craft or trade. Demonstrated ability to work well within a team environment. Demonstrated excellent customer service skills. Demonstrated stable work history. Working knowledge of computerized systems. Ability to read and understand technical manuals and blueprints related to trade. Ability to write reports summarizing work activities. Successful completion of the Leader Development Program.

Driving Required

This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three-year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident.

Salary Range

$57,757 + depending on qualifications

Additional Working Conditions:

* This position and associated job duties have been designated as essential during extraordinary and emergency situations when the university is closed. Essential personnel must maintain contact with their supervisor and report to work as regularly scheduled unless directed otherwise.

* Required to operate an electronic device such as an iPhone, iPad, or laptop/desktop computer to perform and fulfill time reporting and work management requirements. Work management requirements include receiving work assignments, updating work orders, and other functions as required.

* May be required to work in confined spaces, manholes, tunnels, elevated work, extended shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.

* May be exposed to loud noise, high dust and allergen levels.

* May be required to lift up to 50lbs. Often required to twist, grasp, push, pull and bend.

* Operate job related equipment.

* May require tuberculosis screening and occasional use of a respirator.

* Drive University vehicles. Maintain acceptable driver rating as established in Policy: UTS157 Section 2.5.4.

* Participate in on-call program.

Work Shift

* Regular shift hours 06:30AM - 06:30PM; 40 hours a week, five 8-hour days, or possible four 10-hour days with schedule to be determined with supervisor. Some overtime, evening, weekends, and holidays possible.
