About the Role
The Company is seeking a General Counsel/Chief Legal Officer to serve as the primary legal advisor to the Board of Education, Commissioner, and senior staff. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing strategic legal advice on a wide range of education law and policy matters, ensuring compliance with state and federal laws, and leading the legal office in support of the company's educational vision. This includes overseeing the Office of Professional Practice Investigations, managing a team of attorneys and administrative staff, and working closely with the Attorney General's Office on litigation. The role also involves advising on employment law, Open Meeting Law issues, and representing the company in interagency meetings. Applicants for the General Counsel/Chief Legal Officer position at the company should have a strong legal background, with a preference for those admitted to the Massachusetts Bar and with at least 5 years' of legal experience. The role requires excellent analytical, research, and writing skills, as well as a deep understanding of education and employment laws. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in administrative adjudicatory hearings, litigation, and a strong ability to manage a diverse workload. Strong interpersonal, supervisory, and communication skills are essential, as is the ability to work with a high level of confidentiality and maintain ethical standards. The position demands a professional with the ability to strategize, problem-solve, and work effectively with colleagues and clients from diverse backgrounds.
