Who We Are We are a family-owned and operated electrical company who has been in business for 30 years, built on the belief of doing what you say you will do. Our mission is to improve the quality of life for our team members, their families, and our customers — and we accomplish that through constant communication, education, empowerment, integrity, respect, and quality. When you join our team, you are not just taking a job; you are becoming part of a company that genuinely invests in the people who make it great. Position Overview: As a Fire Alarm Technician at M.R. Electricians, you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, inspection, and troubleshooting of fire alarm systems across primarily commercial project sites in the DMV area. You will serve as a technical leader on the job site — managing materials, coordinating with subcontractors, overseeing inspections, and mentoring apprentices and helpers. If you are passionate about safety, take pride in code‑compliant work, and want to grow with a company that invests in your career, we want to hear from you. What You Will Be Doing Install, maintain, inspect, test, and troubleshoot fire alarm systems in accordance with job specifications, NFPA 72, NEC, and applicable local codes. Stay current with the latest editions of NFPA 72 (National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code) and the NEC as they relate to fire alarm systems. Review fire alarm drawings and project plans; assign duties to team members to execute projects efficiently and on schedule. Supervise job site activities including material management, team coordination, and quality control throughout all phases of the project. Collaborate with the Director of Operations — who also serves as Project Manager and oversees the commercial division — to ensure projects are completed on time, within scope, and to the highest quality standards. Coordinate fire alarm work with other subcontractors to ensure efficient use of time and materials. Program, enable, and disable fire alarm systems as required during installation, testing, and service calls. Respond to fire alarm system failures, inadvertent alarms, and emergency service calls; diagnose and resolve issues on‑site. Supervise and participate in AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction) inspections; address any noted deficiencies promptly. Order materials as needed and manage on‑site inventory throughout the duration of projects. Complete and document service tickets accurately for all work performed outside of project scope or on service calls. Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, vendors, and contractors to support project outcomes and long‑term business relationships. Train, mentor, and provide hands‑on guidance to apprentices and helpers in fire alarm systems, codes, and best practices. Adhere to all company safety policies, OSHA standards, and applicable codes at all times. Perform additional tasks as needed to support project and company objectives. Required Qualifications Valid Maryland State Journeyperson Electrician License, or a valid license from a state with Maryland reciprocity. (Required) NICET Level III Certification in Fire Alarm Systems — OR — a minimum of 3 years of hands‑on fire alarm installation and service experience with a demonstrated commitment to obtaining NICET Level III certification. (Required) Comprehensive working knowledge of NFPA 72, the NEC, and applicable local fire alarm codes. (Required) Demonstrated ability to read and interpret fire alarm blueprints, drawings, and project specifications. (Required) Experience with programming, enabling, and disabling fire alarm systems. (Required) Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills in fire alarm systems. (Required) Strong team leadership skills include task delegation, communication, and mentoring. (Required) Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record. (Required) High School Diploma or GED. (Required) Preferred Qualifications NICET Level III or higher (if not already held, must be pursued upon hire). Experience with Fire‑Lite and/or Silent Knight fire alarm systems. OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification. CPR / First Aid certification. Experience coordinating with AHJs, general contractors, and other subcontractors on commercial projects.
