Mortgage Warehouse Lending Portfolio Manager II

Job Title

Underwrites credit exposure for the largest and most complex Mortgage Warehouse Lending clients and actively manages Middle Market and large corporate exposures, to include syndications, PEG-owned companies and exposures to publicly traded companies, all with significant client exposure, including Tall Trees and Mega Tall Trees. Individual client exposures are up to and at times may exceed internal lending limits, with all necessary approvals obtained therein. Combined assigned portfolio exposure can typically exceed $1-2 billion in commitments. Includes extensive and robust day-to-day client interaction, managing all aspects of portfolio risk and adheres to all regulatory, supervisory and compliance guidelines. A critical component of this role is early identification of emerging credit problems and industry trends.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Underwriting: Leads the entire commercial underwriting process both internally and externally with the largest and most complex prospects and clients. Underwrites and documents all prospect and client transactions in accordance with prudent risk management. Possesses a mastery of client expertise, analyzes individual company performance and provides accurate risk assessment of prospect and client credit risk profiles. Works directly with Relationship Managers, Specialized Credit Administration, outside legal counsel and internal IT/Platform Management and is expected to drive all aspects of prospect and client approval, onboarding, closing, servicing and maintenance. Provides independent analysis of financial statements, forecasts and business plans; identifies and mitigates key risks; and is primary point of contact for addressing client needs. Recommends and models appropriate loan structures based on extensive due diligence. Is accountable for all aspects of risk evaluation and associated regulatory compliance requirements.

Portfolio Management: Accountable for and manages assigned portfolio by monitoring performance and trends, identifying issues and following through for remediation. Responsible for risk rating integrity, annual reviews as well as financial statement spreading, analysis, compliance and regulatory review. Manages all renewals, modifications, amendments and waivers in the assigned portfolio within stringent timeframes. Is expected to be anticipatory, forward focused, independent, transparent and collaborative in identification, communication, escalation and remediation of credit risk.

Client Servicing Effort: In conjunction with other internal partners, applies knowledge of credit policy, pricing and structure to develop solutions that both meet the client's needs and are within the Bank's risk appetite. Objectively establish and present credit materials in accordance with policy and sound credit risk management.

Manage data integrity of all data inputs and outputs. Review and update loan systems and various program information data points to ensure accuracy with approvals and legal documentation.

Span of Control: no direct reports but expected to help coach and mentor less experienced PMs. Maintain regular communication with prospects and clients, Portfolio Management teammates, Relationship Managers, Credit Risk Managers, Credit Review partners, Technology, and other internal and external audit and examiner functions.

Teammates in this role are charged with providing independent and unbiased current and forward-looking risk view on assigned clients/prospects in the portfolio. They author independent risk recommendations including, but not limited to: risk rating, compliance and underwriting. The recommendation is approved by ultimate risk approval officer with appropriate authority based on risk exposure.

Portfolio Manager is also responsible for prudently exercising MWL 'delegated authority' where appropriate. Some examples of this might include permitting a sublimit overage, delaying a margin call, or approving advances on the facility over a pre-determined dollar amount. The Portfolio Manager is expected to understand the depth and breadth of various operational risks associated with each use of the 'delegated authority' as it pertains to their specific client's overall financial and operational risk framework.

Teammates in this position are also responsible for the approval, maintenance and oversight of new takeout investors pertaining to their assigned clients within their respective portfolios.

Responsible for the weekly collection and testing of secondary marketing position reports for their respective clients, ensuring clients' pipelines are properly hedged against interest rate market volatility. If a client's hedging coverage is outside prescribed parameters, assigned Portfolio Manager is responsible for documentation and escalation to Relationship Manager denoting hedging strategy is outside tolerance and why.

Must be able to handle a large portfolio of complex clients in addition to taking a leadership role in activities outside of day-to-day portfolio responsibilities that benefit the MWL platform as a whole.

Must work well ahead of time sensitive deadlines to deliver solid credit and underwriting analyses and risk rating recommendations. Key risk drivers are both credit and operational driven by collateral performance.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Finance or related field and at least 10+years of related training and experience in commercial credit analysis. Mastery level proficiency with MS Office Desktop applications. Strong interpersonal skills and solid written/verbal communication are essential. Sound credit skills essential. Must have utmost attention to detail. Ability to prioritize workflow and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Has successfully held similar role with commercial financial institution or like experience. Industry or sub-sector expertise. Mastery of Truist Bank operating systems (i.e. nCino, Moody's CreditLens).
