Shop Helper

The Shop Helper supports daily production activities in a busy job shop by assisting machine operators and performing a variety of secondary operations. You load and unload sheet metal and other materials into machines, operate simple machine controls, and handle finished parts. This role is highly repetitive but offers variety across tasks such as counting, sanding, cleaning, palletizing, deburring, packaging, and general shop support.

Responsibilities

• Load pieces of sheet metal and other materials into machines, initiate machine cycles by pressing the appropriate controls, and safely unload finished parts.
• Perform secondary operations including deburring, parts cleaning, counting, packaging, and general finishing work on rubber, plastic, and metal components.
• Pull parts from laser and waterjet machines and ensure they are properly staged for the next operation.
• Assist laser and waterjet operators and other machine operators as needed to keep production running smoothly.
• Palletize materials such as rubber, plastic, and metals in an organized and safe manner.
• Sand and clean parts to meet quality standards and prepare them for shipment or further processing.
• Package finished parts accurately, ensuring correct counts and proper protection for transport.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area by sweeping, removing debris, and returning tools and materials to their designated locations.
• Perform miscellaneous shop duties as required to support overall production and workflow.
• Maintain a positive and professional image while working collaboratively with the rest of the shop team.

• Comfort standing and lifting for the duration of the shift.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds safely and repeatedly.
• Willingness to perform very repetitive tasks on a daily basis while working in a variety of areas within the shop.
• Experience in a manufacturing or production environment (preferred).
• Basic production and general labor skills, including counting, sanding, palletizing products, deburring, and unloading materials.
• Ability to work safely and follow instructions in a machine shop environment.
• Comfort working in a loud, hands-on setting and getting hands dirty as part of daily tasks.

• Prior experience in a job shop or machine shop environment is an advantage.
• Familiarity with supporting laser and waterjet operations is beneficial.
• Strong attention to detail when counting, packaging, and handling parts.
• Reliability and consistency in following assigned tasks and schedules.
• Positive attitude and willingness to assist across different areas of the shop as needed.

Work Environment

This role is based in a machine shop environment that handles a wide variety of materials, including rubber, plastic, and metals. You work around laser and waterjet machines and other shop equipment in a loud, fast-paced setting where getting your hands dirty is part of the job. Steel-toed boots or shoes are required as part of the safety-focused dress code. The position offers two shift options: a first shift from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, where overtime may occur after the scheduled shift, and a second shift from 2:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m., Monday through Thursday, where overtime may occur before the scheduled shift. Tasks may include more drill press work on first shift and more deburring and general shop help on second shift, providing exposure to different equipment and operations.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Mounds View, MN.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr.

This is a fully onsite position in Mounds View,MN.
