Staff Accountant

Our client is seeking a Staff Accountant to play a key role in supporting the financial administration and accounting operations of multiemployer employee benefit funds through accurate transaction processing, record maintenance, reconciliations, and reporting support. This position is responsible for maintaining financial records, preparing accounting documentation, performing account analyses and reconciliations, and assisting with financial reporting activities to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data.

Working closely with internal departments, management, clients, auditors, actuaries, and other stakeholders, the Staff Accountant contributes to the efficient administration of Fund operations while supporting compliance with accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies. Success in this role requires strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.

To thrive/succeed as the Staff Accountant, you should have:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required; two (2) to three (3) years of accounting experience preferred, including experience with account reconciliations, financial reporting, cash management, and accounting transactions.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail and a demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines.
• Ability to interpret and analyze accounting records, financial statements, supporting schedules, and related documentation while identifying and resolving discrepancies effectively.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate professionally with clients, auditors, actuaries, management, and internal stakeholders.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel; experience with accounting software, ERP platforms, Sage, or similar financial systems preferred. Ability to exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and uphold high standards of professionalism and integrity.

Your responsibilities as the Staff Accountant will include:

• Process and maintain accounting transactions and records by preparing invoices, entering financial data, creating journal entries, maintaining general ledger accounts, and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of accounting documentation.
• Perform account reconciliations and financial analyses including monthly bank reconciliations, trial balance maintenance, account reviews, expense reconciliations, and the research and resolution of discrepancies.
• Support financial reporting and accounting operations by assisting with month-end close activities, preparing reports, schedules, and supporting documentation, and providing general accounting support to management and the Accounting Department.
• Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders by responding to inquiries and documentation requests from clients, auditors, actuaries, and internal departments, while supporting audit activities and regulatory reporting requirements.
• Contribute to operational effectiveness and compliance by maintaining organized financial records, supporting process improvements and system enhancements, safeguarding confidential information, and adhering to internal controls, company policies, and established accounting procedures.
