Registered Nurse Emergency Room

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Emergency Room (ER) provides skilled nursing care to patients with acute and critical conditions. This role involves patient assessments, management of dysrhythmias, administration of emergency medications and blood products, phlebotomy, IV placement, and collaboration with the interdisciplinary team. The RN is expected to deliver care in a fast-paced ER environment, demonstrating expertise in multisystem organ dysfunction, procedural sedation, and central line management. Strong communication and competency in emergency nursing procedures are essential. Responsibilities:

• Perform patient assessments and monitor vital signs in the ER setting.
• Interpret and manage cardiac dysrhythmias and multisystem organ dysfunction/failure.
• Administer emergency medications, blood products, IV vasopressors, continuous IV paralytics, and sedation.
• Perform phlebotomy and start intravenous lines as required.
• Manage central lines and provide care related to isolation precautions.
• Administer procedural sedation and provide care for stroke (CVA) patients.
• Document patient care accurately using Epic electronic health records.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to coordinate patient care.
• Float to other units as census warrants.
• Maintain competency in required emergency nursing skills and procedures.

• Active Registered Nurse license.
• Minimum 1 year of experience in Emergency Department nursing or related acute care.
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification.
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification.
• NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification.
• Competency in phlebotomy and IV insertion.
• Proficiency in Epic electronic medical record system preferred.

• Experience with multi-acuity patient ratios (1-5 patients).
• Familiarity with procedural sedation administration.
• Experience managing continuous IV paralytics and sedation.
• Knowledge of blood product administration and central line care.
• Comfort working with isolation precautions and complex emergency cases.

• Float to other units as needed when census warrants.
• Every other weekend work required.
• Minimal return-to-office (RTO) restrictions.
• Mandatory competency in phlebotomy and IV placement for all ER RNs.
• Open to accommodating block schedules but not guaranteed.

• Shift work in the Emergency Department with mixed day/night coverage.
• Block schedules may be accommodated when possible.
• Work every other weekend as part of the rotation.
