Responsibilities Assist teachers and administrators in facilitating positive academic and behavioral growth for students. Maintain and restore order and discipline in the school building and on grounds. Restrain and/or transport disturbed students as necessary using non‑offensive verbal and physical mediation skills. Supervise student behavior throughout the school day, including in hallways, lunchrooms, playgrounds, quiet/isolation rooms, and time‑out areas. Assist teachers in maintaining classroom order and preparing classroom materials. Support children with special needs in interactions with typically developing peers. Assist children in developing independence skills in self‑help areas (e.g., toilet training, preparing and serving snacks, dressing, grooming). Accompany individuals or small groups of children to other locations within the building. For Title I students, work with identified students in reading and/or math, support classroom teachers in reinforcing material during reading blocks, elementary and math classes, or regular instruction, and maintain academic progress records. Title I Duties (contingent on grant funding) Assist identified students in reading and/or math under guidance of school staff. Support classroom teachers in reinforcing skills during reading, math, and regular instruction blocks. Provide small‑group support after regular instruction. Listen to students read fiction or nonfiction. Maintain academic progress records. Alert teachers to special needs or relevant information concerning the student. Qualifications / Licensure Associate’s degree from an accredited institution or 48 semester hours or 72 quarter hours from an accredited institution. Or pass the Ohio Department of Education approved Parapro examination and possess a high school diploma or GED. Must possess a strong desire and willingness to assist teachers and administrators in serving a diverse student population. Must have the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, co‑workers, and supervisors. Must obtain an Educational Aide Permit from the Ohio Department of Education if hired. Under final consideration, fingerprints and a criminal record check are required; compliance with Ohio Revised Code 109.57 and 3319.311. Attach an official transcript or degree indicating field of study. Physical/Mental Demands And Work Environment Desktop PC, laptop, scanner, calculator, software, desk, adjustable chair. Prolonged sitting and standing; occasional stooping, bending, squatting, kneeling, pushing, pulling, twisting. Frequent repetitive hand motions, including keyboarding and mouse use; occasional reaching. Occasional lifting and carrying of less than 10 pounds. Works in office setting; may require irregular and prolonged hours. Regular and punctual attendance required. Maintains emotional control under stress and works with frequent interruptions.
