Geothermal Lab Technician

The Geothermal Lab Technician plays a critical role in supporting Mazama Energy's geothermal research and field operations through the operation and maintenance of advanced laboratory equipment, preparation of rock samples, collection of experimental data, and support of ongoing testing programs. This position is essential to the success of Mazama Energy's research initiatives, ensuring laboratory operations are conducted safely, efficiently, and to the highest technical standards. Additionally, Mazama Energy relies on this position to maintain laboratory readiness, improve testing capabilities, support continuous laboratory development, and collaborate closely with engineers and scientists working to advance geothermal technologies. The position does not have any direct reports and reports to the Laboratory Manager or designated Research & Development leader. Essential Duties and Proficiencies Laboratory Operations & Testi ngOperate and monitor laboratory equipment including geomechanical loading frames, heat reactors, autoclaves, Scanning Electron Microscopes (SEM), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) systems, sieve analysis equipment, and geochemistry testing system s.Conduct routine and specialized laboratory experiments supporting geothermal research and field operation s.Prepare small-scale and large-scale rock core samples, including basalt, granite, and other crystalline rocks for testing and analysi s.Perform rock characterization and mechanical property testing relevant to geothermal application s.Ensure laboratory procedures are conducted accurately and in accordance with established testing standard s Equipment Maintenance & Laboratory Suppo rtTroubleshoot equipment malfunctions and operational issue s.Perform routine preventive maintenance and maintain maintenance record s.Coordinate calibration, repairs, and servicing activities with vendors and technical specialists when neede d.Monitor equipment performance and recommend improvements to equipment reliability and laboratory efficienc y.Maintain laboratory equipment readiness to support ongoing and future research project Data Acquisition, Documentation & Quality Assura nceAcquire, process, document, and organize experimental data generated from laboratory testing activiti es.Maintain laboratory records, testing logs, and quality assurance documentati on.Support data validation and reporting efforts for research and operational projec ts.Ensure proper chain-of-custody, tracking, storage, and handling of samples and test resul ts.Maintain accurate and organized laboratory documentation in accordance with company standar mentMaintain a safe working environment and ensure compliance with all laboratory safety procedures and Mazama Energy polic ies.Participate in the evaluation and implementation of new laboratory equipment, testing methods, and technolog ies.Collaborate with engineers, researchers, scientists, and field operations personnel to support project objecti ves.Recommend improvements in laboratory workflows, testing assi Qualifications and Experience Requir ementsAbility to work in the United States without sponso rship.Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Rock Mechanics, Earth Sciences, Geology, or a related technical disci pline.Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of hands-on laboratory exper ience.Experience operating rock mechanics or geomechanical laboratory equi pment.Experience testing mechanical properties of crystalline rocks such as basalt, granite, and other geothermal reservoir rock types.Experience preparing rock core samples and conducting rock characterization te sting.Experience with laboratory instrumentation, data acquisition systems, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance pro grams.Strong understanding of laboratory safety practices and proce dures.Excellent communication, organization, and documentation s kills.Demonstrated ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary Preferred Qualifi cationsExperience with SEM, XRD, geochemistry analysis, acidizing experiments, image analysis, or related laboratory tech niques.Experience with Python, LabVIEW, CAD software, or instrumentation integration and auto mation.Experience within geothermal energy, mining, petroleum, geotechnical, materials testing, or earth science laboratory enviro Comp mechanics, geomechanics, and geothermal laboratory testin g systems.Strong technical capabilities in rock core preparation and charact erization.Ability to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation-related laborato ry issues.Experience performing preventive maintenance and equipment reliability a ctivities.Proficiency in laboratory data acquisition systems and documentation practices.Knowledge of laboratory quality assurance procedures and safety standards.Ability to interpret technical procedures, engineering drawings, and testing protocols.Familiarity with laboratory software, instrumentation systems, and technical report Physical and Other Qua lificationsMust be able to pass drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment and random) and criminal backgro und checks.Must be able to sit, stand, walk, bend, climb stairs, and work in laboratory environments for extend ed periods.Must be able to lift, carry, move, and handle rock samples, laboratory materials, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, with assistance when necessary.Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and safely work around laboratory equipment and testi ng
