Job Title: CNC Programmer
Job Description
The CNC Programmer plays a key role on the production team within an industry-leading manufacturing environment. This position requires strong CNC machining expertise and the ability to use CAD/CAM tools and solid mechanical principles to create complex setups and accurate programs for CNC milling operations.
Responsibilities

• Review 3D designs, engineering drawings, models, and samples to determine appropriate CNC machining operations.
• Create CNC programs using CAD/CAM software to support 3-axis vertical milling centers, with Fanuc and/or Haas control experience as an advantage.
• Collaborate extensively with Engineering and Quality/Regulatory teams to ensure manufacturing operations meet all quality requirements.
• Improve setup processes to increase efficiency and output by reducing setup time and setup scrap.
• Follow production schedules and promptly report material shortages and assembly issues.
• Maintain the CNC program library and data server by ensuring that the most current programs are posted and kept up to date.
• Assist in the design and acquisition of custom and off-the-shelf tooling and fixturing.
• Support machine operators in setting up tooling and machines for first-part inspection and operate CNC machines as needed.
• Complete accurate inspection reports for each production run.
• Independently set up tools, make tool offsets, and perform tool changes.
• Operate within standard operating procedures, maintain daily preventive maintenance logs, and keep the work area clean and organized.
• Use measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, and dial indicators to verify part dimensions and quality.
• Properly start up, set up, operate, clean, and shut down CNC machines, including locking out equipment when applicable.

Essential Skills

• At least 2 years of experience in the automotive or machining industry related to CNC 3-axis milling or CNC programming, preferably with Fanuc control.
• Strong background in CAD/CAM programs, with Autodesk Inventor required for programming tasks.
• Ability to stand for a full shift and lift a minimum of 30 pounds.
• Ability to read and edit basic G-code (preferred but not strictly required).
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and a full understanding of GD&T symbols.
• Enrollment in or completion of CNC or machining-related courses or at least 2 years of CNC-related experience.
• Familiarity with mechanical and electric/pneumatic power tools, torque wrenches, and standard hand tools, including their use, repair, and maintenance.
• Highly professional and effective communication skills with the ability to interface with colleagues throughout the organization.
• Proficiency with computer skills and the Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Solid foundational understanding of machining processes, including CNC milling, manual milling, drilling, and tapping.
• Proficiency with measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, and dial indicators.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Associate degree in a related field is preferred.
• Experience with Fanuc and Haas CNC controls is a strong advantage.
• Ability to read and edit basic G-code is a plus.
• Autodesk Inventor expertise is highly valued, and candidates may be asked to program a part in Inventor during the interview.
• Experience with GD&T and interpreting complex engineering drawings.
• background in automotive or precision machining environments.
• Strong problem-solving skills and a continuous improvement mindset focused on efficiency and quality.

Work Environment
This role is based in a very clean, temperature-controlled shop environment within a family-owned, growing business. The CNC Programmer works on the shop floor with modern CNC equipment and measuring tools, following standard operating procedures and preventive maintenance routines. The setting emphasizes organization, safety, and cleanliness, providing a comfortable and professional atmosphere for focused, precision work.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lake in the Hills, IL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
