Offsite Ophthalmic Technician

Location: Brooklyn, NY
Contract Duration: 13 Weeks
Schedule: Monday–Friday | 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM | Day Shift

Travelers: $1,700 – $1,800/week, based on experience
Local Candidates: $40 – $45/hour, based on experience

We are seeking an experienced Ophthalmic Technician to perform preliminary ophthalmic screening examinations and provide clinical support to physicians in an outpatient ophthalmology setting.

The ideal candidate will have strong technical knowledge, experience with ophthalmic diagnostic testing and equipment, excellent patient-care skills, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced clinical environment.

• Perform preliminary ophthalmic screening examinations, including:
  • Central and peripheral visual field testing
  • Ocular motility testing
  • Color vision testing
  • Pharmacological pupil testing
  • Tonometry and tonography
  • Pupil assessments prior to dilation
• Direct patient flow and prepare patients for physician evaluation.
• Obtain and accurately document patient medical and personal history.
• Screen patients for conditions relevant to ophthalmic care.
• Coordinate laboratory testing, ophthalmic photography, outpatient procedures, admissions, and surgeries as directed by physicians.
• Educate patients and families regarding diagnostic procedures and treatment plans.
• Calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot ophthalmic equipment, including:
  • Slit lamps
  • Biomicroscopes
  • Keratometers
  • Lensometers
  • Tangent screens
  • Tonometers
• Clean, stock, and maintain consultation rooms and laboratory supplies.
• Sterilize and prepare instruments for ophthalmic procedures.
• Assist physicians with minor office surgeries, laser treatments, and operating room procedures.
• Maintain appropriate safety, infection-control, and patient-care standards.
• Perform other clinical and administrative duties as assigned.

Education

• High School Diploma or GED – Required
• Ophthalmic Technician or Medical Assistant certificate training – Required

Certification

• Ophthalmic Technician Certification – Preferred

Experience

• Minimum 3 years of Ophthalmic Technician experience – Required
• Strong experience performing ophthalmic diagnostic testing and patient care.
• Hands-on experience with ophthalmic equipment calibration and maintenance.
• Experience assisting with minor ophthalmic procedures and surgeries preferred.
• Strong communication, patient-care, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced ophthalmology environment.
