About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: ICU Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 1 year in ICU License: Active nursing license required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, TNCC or TCAR, NIH Must-Have: Recent charge experience (2 years) and experience in high acuity settings Description: Start date within the next 3-5 weeks preferred. The nurse will be required to float to medical-surgical/telemetry units if the ICU has low census. Ratios will be 5-6:1 when floating. Floating may occur for the majority of scheduled shifts depending on census; please ensure the RN is aware and agreeable to this. 36 or 48 hours per week will be considered. Required skills include arterial line management, assisting with chest tube insertion/removal, and BiPAP/CPAP management. The RN should have experience with blood product administration and care of ventilated patients. Central line care/management and chronic/acute renal failure experience are important. The nurse must be familiar with ongoing IV paralytics/neuromuscular blockade and continuous IV sedation. CVA/acute stroke management and emergency medications experience are essential. Skills in external ventricular drain (EVD) management and FloTrac/Vigileo monitoring are needed. Experience with high flow nasal cannula (HFNC) and hypothermia protocols/Arctic Sun is required. Intermediate skills in ICP monitoring and infection prevention are necessary. The nurse should be proficient in interpreting arterial blood gases (ABGs) and dysrhythmias. Isolation precautions/PPE practices should be well understood. IV insulin protocols knowledge is needed, as well as lumbar drain management. The RN must be experienced in managing dysrhythmias and handling patients with multisystem organ dysfunction/failure. Additional skills required include post-cardiac surgery and post-neurosurgery management. Knowledge in pre/post cardiac catheterization/intervention and procedural sedation administration/monitoring is necessary. Preparation for sheath removal and management of spinal cord injuries is essential. Starting and maintaining IVs and suctioning (ETT, NT) capabilities are necessary. The nurse should be proficient in titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips. Experience with transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and traumatic brain injury care is preferred. Ventilator management skills are required for this position. Patient demographics include adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. Daily census averages around 15 patients with a maximum of 20 beds. Interdisciplinary support includes various specialized healthcare teams.
