Training and Commercial Outreach Coordinator

The Michigan Recycling Coalition is seeking a self-motivated, collaborative problem-solver, and effective communicator to join our team as a Training and Commercial Outreach Coordinator. Working under the supervision of the Executive Director and Education Program Coordinator, the Outreach Coordinator will be focused on implementing the MRC’s Recycling Education and Outreach grant through the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), but will also include support for Coalition business; including but not limited to administrative and logistical duties as assigned.

Location: Lansing, MI (primarily remote, although office space available, quarterly meetings at the Lansing office, travel throughout Michigan required) Applicants must live in Michigan.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Lead the development of a commercial sector recycling outreach & education program including
2. Leading in the creation of a digital commercial recycling educational library
3. Directing video projects
4. Making presentations to large groups about developed resources.
5. Assist the Education Program Coordinator in direct outreach and support of
6. EPA Justice40 communities to foster recycling education programming throughout the state. This includes record keeping, note taking, progress reports, budget management and other direct assistance in developing sustainable materials management education programs.
7. Professional trainings offered by the Coalition
8. Oversee, organize, prepare, and present training materials and programs to deliver online and in-person presentations about all aspects of recycling using both residential and commercial-sector educational information and resources.
9. Review grant objectives and create detailed work plans to accomplish objectives through spreadsheets, google doc workplans, and by leading internal team discussions.
10. Draft, edit, and refine RFPs and grant applications.
11. Develop, coordinate, and maintain digital and physical records, and write progress reports on grant activities for the U.S EPA.
12. Edit and write sustainable materials management manuals for use by recycling professionals and residents.
13. Maintain a calendar to coordinate work flow and meetings.
14. Interact professionally with Board, members, contractors, staff, clients, vendors and visitors.
15. Support growth of the MRC, its mission, vision, goals, and objectives.

The Ideal Candidate Must

1. Be self-driven, communicative, and excited to join a dynamic, dependable team of recycling leaders.
2. Have experience delivering presentations and public speaking.
3. Demonstrate a collaborative, team-oriented work style with the ability to work independently and share information effectively.
4. Demonstrate a strong technical understanding of recycling, the circular economy, end market development, composting, commercial business management, and reduction/reuse.
5. Have strong relationship-building and communication skills, including technical writing.
6. Demonstrate proficiency in Google Suite and Zoom. Additional proficiencies desired include Canva, and database applications.
7. Be willing to travel.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Possession of a bachelor's degree in a related field of study OR commensurate experience in the materials management field.
2. Prior knowledge of recycling and sustainable materials management preferred.
3. Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
