Assistant Controller

OPEN POSITION: Assistant Controller

SALARY RANGE: up to 115K plus 10% discretionary bonus target (salary could be higher or lower based on experience)

LOCATION: Northern Monmouth County, NJ – In office 4x per week after training period.

Our client, a large commercial specialized construction company with a national footprint, is seeking an Assistant Controller at their National Headquarters in Northern Monmouth County.

Position Summary:

This position will require strong accounting skills with the ability to work efficiently under strict deadlines. The Assistant Controller will report directly to the Controller. The ideal candidate will be comfortable generating and analyzing financial reporting for senior management. They should have experience managing accounting operations as well as some financial planning including budgeting and forecasting.

Responsibilities

• Oversight month end close process
• Intercompany Reconciliations for multiple entities
• Manage Prepaid Insurance Schedules
• Generate and complete Amortization Journal Entries
• Prepare monthly financial statements for multiple entities
• Build and prepare ad-hoc reports as needed as well as identify reporting that would improve financial operations and clarity
• Set up GL Accounts
• Assist with annual budget preparation
• Lead the annual financial audit including preparation of audit schedules. Respond to audit requests and delegate as needed.
• Lead the semiannual bank audit including responses to audit requests & delegation as needed.
• Daily cash reporting; assistance with quarterly running cash forecast

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required
• 7+ years of corporate accounting experience preferably in the construction industry
• 2+ years of direct staff management
• Experience across operations including management of Accounts Payable and Receivables
• Strong understanding of GAAP and standard accounting procedures
• Experience with month-end close, reconciliations, accruals, and financial reporting
• Strong Excel Skills required as well as proficiency in Office suite
• CPA or CMA is strongly preferred; 10+ years of accounting experience without CPA/CMA
• Sage 300/Timberline experience preferred
• Construction experience preferred
• Strong technical, analytical, communication and presentation skills
• Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment
• Excellent attention to detail, organization, and time management skills
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams
