MRI Technologist

The MRI Technologist performs diagnostic testing according to established departmental procedures, ensuring the delivery of quality patient care. The MRI Technologist performs diagnostic testing as directed by the Radiologist at a competent technical level not requiring constant supervision. This position operates diagnostic equipment, including peripheral equipment, in a safe and efficient manner to obtain optimal test results. The MRI Technologist manages the patient during the diagnostic procedure to meet patient care standards. The MRI Technologist maintains a safe environment for themselves and patients. The MRI Technologist applies knowledge of MRI safety practices to maintain a safe environment for all. This position ensures supplies are maintained and reports problems with equipment to the appropriate staff member.

This position actively participates in and supports student clinical education activities where applicable. This position supports organizational goals by providing quality customer service, participating in performance improvement efforts and demonstrating a commitment to teamwork and cooperation.

Demonstrates the ability to perform the department specific competencies as listed on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool.

Potential for exposure to the hazards and risk of the hospital environment, including exposure to infectious disease, blood-borne pathogens, potential injury, and hazardous substances, including electromagnetic radiation. Position requires the ability to stand a majority of the time; and require the ability to sit in front of a CRT monitor much of the time. Position requires extensive pushing, pulling and lifting of patients and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

This position reports to the MRI Supervisor.

Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited radiologic technologist or Magnetic Resonance Imaging program required.

One year of diagnostic testing experience preferred. Candidates must possess the ability to multitask, with attention to fine detail in a fast-paced environment. Proficiency in Clinical Applications preferred at time of hire; incumbents within position will be trained appropriately and then skill will be required for this position within 30-60 days from date of hire. NJDEP State License expires every two years and must be renewed biennially to work. ARRT expires on the incumbent's date of birth and must be renewed annually to work.

American Heart Association BLS required upon hire or transfer, and Must meet one of the following qualification pathways upon hire or transfer:

• Active MRI Certification by American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT) - NJDEP license not required
• Active MRI-Only Certification by American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)(MR) - NJDEP license not required
• Active Dual Radiography and MRI certification with State Licensure Required: ARRT certification in Radiography (R) and MRI (MR), and New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) license in Radiography. Incumbents hired or transferred prior to 4/25 must obtain ARRT-MR certification within 18 months of hire or transfer date
