School Health Aide 10 Month - Baltimore City Health Department

Job Compensation Salary Range: $34,477.00 - $37,133.00 Annually. Starting Pay: $34,477.00 Annually. Job Summary A School Health Aide in the Baltimore City Health Department performs a variety of school health clinic and office support tasks for Baltimore City Public Schools. This role involves no supervisory duties and requires occasional exposure to body fluids and students with contagious illnesses. Incumbents receive moderate supervision from a technical superior and work a conventional workweek. The work requires minimal physical exertion. Minimum Qualifications Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a GED certificate. Experience: Two years as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience as deemed by the employer. Licenses, Registrations, and Certifications Must hold and maintain current certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant issued by the Maryland Board of Nursing. After hiring, must obtain and maintain current certification as a Medication Technician within six months. Must receive the hepatitis‑B series immunizations unless already immune. Must successfully complete and maintain certification for first aid and CPR courses for adults, children, and infants. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Reading comprehension sufficient to understand American Red Cross, American Heart Association, School Health Services Manual, and other procedures documents. Ability to provide first aid and perform simple medical tests and procedures. Ability to establish and maintain constructive relationships with parents, students, medical staff, school administrators, and teachers. Ability to maintain confidentiality of student records and accurately file student health records alphabetically and numerically. Ability to assist a nurse or nurse practitioner during patient care. Additional Information Applicable for positions of trust: Candidates must complete a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint authorization. All selected candidates must complete a mandatory six‑month probation period. Eligibility & Selection Process Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for at least six months. The Director of Human Resources has final authority on acceptable minimum qualifications. Candidates meeting the minimum qualifications will be placed on an eligible list for at least six months, after which further evaluation of training and experience will take place. Examination may include additional questions to assess specific knowledge, skills, and abilities.
