Public Finance Associate Attorney

Direct Counsel is seeking a Public Finance Associate Attorney to join a nationally recognized Public Finance practice at a premier global law firm. The practice is consistently ranked No. 1 in the United States for bond counsel , and for more than 35 years has led the nation in total financing volume.

In California, the team ranked No. 1 in bond counsel in 2025 , serving as bond counsel on transactions totaling more than $38.25 billion , representing nearly 50% of California's bond issuance market. This is a unique opportunity to join a market-leading team and work on some of the largest and most sophisticated public finance transactions in the country.

The Associate Attorney will work on the full spectrum of public finance matters for an exceptionally diverse client base, including state and local governmental entities, nonprofit organizations, investment banks, bond purchasers, developers, and other public and private entities. Matters span municipal bonds and other financings for public infrastructure and capital improvement projects, healthcare and educational facilities, affordable housing, energy and water projects, public-private partnerships, tribal financings, securitizations, tax matters, SEC investigations, bankruptcies, and workouts.

The role offers significant breadth and hands-on transactional experience , with exposure to sophisticated financing structures and a wide range of industries and clients. While public finance experience, UCC and securities law knowledge are a plus, they are not required . Qualifications:

• JD from an accredited law school

• 3-6 years of relevant law firm experience

• Strong transactional background preferred

• Experience in public finance, UCC, or securities law is a plus but not required

• Active membership in a U.S. state bar and ability to satisfy the requirements of the applicable jurisdiction

• Excellent writing and communication skills

• Outstanding interpersonal and organizational skills

• Strong client-service skills and a highly motivated approach to work

• Ability to collaborate effectively and manage sophisticated matters in a fast-paced environment

Location: Sacramento

Salary: $260,000–$390,000 + discretionary merit bonus
