Job Summary Under the direction of the EPI-CAL Leadership and support from project management of the Early Psychosis Intervention California (EPI-CAL) program at UC Davis Medical Center, the Instructional Designer will operate, lead, and coordinate the development of high quality learning experiences that align with the strategies, values, and mission of EPI-CAL. This role serves as a key liaison among internal teams, statewide partners, the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS), and statewide Coordinated Specialty Care (CSC) for First Episode Psychosis (FEP) clinics. The Project Manager and Instructional Designer, in collaboration with the Learning Management System (LMS) Team, ensures effective planning, promotion, development, and delivery of instructional projects and services. This position consults with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to understand their vision for projects, create assessments and evaluate web-based learning resources in early psychosis care. This includes designing and managing projects for online, hybrid, and blended learning experiences including courses, eLearnings, microlearnings, digital learning boosts, and other innovative instructional content related to CSC for FEP topic areas. The Instructional Designer is responsible for the development of instructional programs and acting as a technical liaison with both internal and external stakeholders. As the lead instructional designer and technical expert, this position ensures the quality, effectiveness, and alignment of all instructional projects including monitoring learning outcomes, oversee training staff in best practices for online instruction, and overall learning experience for users. This role contributes to the development and maintenance of effective processes and standards for designing impactful online learning programs that are centered on measurable outcomes and the practical application of knowledge in real-world contexts and is responsible for setting standards of quality and adherence to accessibility standards and best practices in adult learning including ADA/WCAG 2.1/universal design requirements. This position evaluates educational technology trends and applications with a focus on pedagogical/andragogic contexts, applying technical and educational expertise related to the best use of learning management systems to maximize course learning objectives, including creating training materials, interfacing and strategizing with the LMS team. This position requires a high level of analysis, leadership and project management skills. Coordination with various community partners and SMEs is critical to the success of this position and EPI-CAL. This position will uphold ethical and legal requirements related to learning accessibility by utilizing overarching design thinking, ensuring a human-centered approach to innovation. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in educational technology, instructional design, or related discipline and/or equivalent experience. Experience as an Instructional Designer for quality and complex online courses including redesigning traditional classroom courses for online delivery; integrating advances in media into the design, development, and implementation of learning applications. Experience editing educational content generated by subject matter experts. Demonstrated experience with the technical tools and platforms required to deliver engaging and media-rich online learning content, and knowledge of trends in educational technology and learning. Experience in performing analysis to establish project tasks and deadline requirements. Experience developing, conducting, and analyzing surveys, interviews, and information to inform course development while synthesizing ideas and integrating information that results in a holistic perspective and action. Experience resolving complex problems without assistance and anticipating and managing risks in area of expertise. Experience in Learning Management System administration and management. Advanced knowledge of instructional design principles and learning strategies, including needs analysis, backwards design, learning outcomes and assessment design, and instructional approaches such as lectures, discussions, activities, and projects. Advanced organization and project management to direct multiple, concurrent projects of a complex nature, establishing priorities, developing course of action, monitoring plans, and ensuring timely completion. Proven ability to lead and facilitate learning strategy meetings with faculty, staff, and other partners. Advanced skills in ADA design and development for web-based delivery in online course content development. Familiarity with universal design and the ability to apply planning, resourcing and monitoring of design life cycles of training and other learning and performance solutions. Advanced knowledge of integrating multimedia into web-based courses and familiarity with tools such as Articulate, Storyline, Rise, Photoshop, digital video, digital audio, Adobe Suite and editing software. Advanced experience in learning management system administration and functionalities. Proven ability to identify key issues critical to a project’s long-range success and to interact with internal and external stakeholders to establish effective working relationships. Excellent organizational and time management skills to structure work and manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and maintain productivity. Advanced oral and written communication skills for presenting, negotiating, and documenting requirements. Preferred Qualifications Master's Degree in educational technology, instructional design, or related discipline and/or equivalent experience. Experience with interface design principles to facilitate instructional effectiveness and user friendliness, including creating design documents and proposals. Experience applying instructional technology innovatively to design effective learning and teaching solutions. Educational background and experience in learning theories, preferably cognitive learning theory. Experience with prototype testing. Experience conducting program and facilities analyses and evaluating technical operations. Innovative problem solving that supports business issues. Experience working effectively in a service-oriented team environment. Skills to present information effectively to a wide variety of audiences including State-level stakeholders; ability to build consensus and manage competing expectations. Customer service skills to translate client needs into effective solutions. Advanced communication skills to lead project teams and foster a positive work environment. Proven ability in budgeting and financial management, including forecasting and data analysis; preparing reports for decision support. Advanced ability to conduct analysis and develop recommendations. Advanced knowledge of MS Office, particularly PowerPoint and Excel.
