Job Summary Position: DJS Residential Group Life Manager I Department: Department of Juvenile Services, Cheltenham Youth Detention Center, Cheltenham, Maryland 20623. Responsibilities Full responsibility for the group life program during specified shifts, including planning and scheduling work assignments of other employees working directly with youth. Supervises staff, including first‑line supervisors, ensuring standards of performance and continuity of training. Responsible for adherence to facility and departmental policies. Assigned a regular shift but may work additional shifts, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as required. Minimum Qualifications High school graduation or an equivalent certificate. Four years of experience providing supervision and guidance to youth in a juvenile facility or juvenile services community program for at‑risk youth. Certification and education requirements set by the Maryland Correctional Training Commission. Substitutions: an Associate of Arts degree in Criminal Justice or the social or behavioral sciences, or 60 credit hours from an accredited college or university with at least 15 in related fields, can substitute one year of experience. A Bachelor’s degree in those fields can substitute two years of experience. U.S. Armed Forces military service as a non‑commissioned officer in Correctional Officer classifications can substitute one year of required experience per year of service. Desired or Preferred Qualifications Three years of experience supervising employees in the performance of work in a secure juvenile setting. Licenses, Registrations and Certifications Completion of the Entrance Level Correctional Training Course and the Maryland Correctional Training Commission certification within 365 days of initial appointment; ongoing certification required while employed. Valid Maryland motor vehicle operator’s license if assigned duties requiring vehicle operation. For employees at DJS Youth Centers: completion of a board‑approved medication technician training program and a valid Maryland Board of Nursing certification as a Medication Technician. Special Requirements United States citizenship or resident alien status. At least 21 years of age. Thorough background check, including fingerprinting and drug testing. Oral interview.
