Major Responsibilities: The Director of Clinical Education (DCE) is responsible for the organization, administration, supervision, coordination, and continuous evaluation of the clinical education component of the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program. The DCE works collaboratively with the Program Director, faculty, clinical affiliates, and clinical instructors to provide high-quality clinical learning experiences that prepare students for entry-level sonography practice and professional credentialing. The position ensures compliance with JRC-DMS/CAAHEP accreditation standards, ARRT and/or ARDMS certification eligibility requirements, SACSCOC faculty credential expectations, and institutional policies.

Key Responsibilities:

• Communication Management: Respond promptly to daily communications via email and voicemail, addressing inquiries promptly and professionally.

• Policy Adherence and Ethical Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to the University's mission, policies, procedures, ethical standards, compliance with data protection regulations and pertinent legal regulations in all aspects of admission activities.

• University Engagement: Participate in Commencement Exercises, new student orientation, university events, committees, self-studies, and University Commencement Ceremonies.

• Special Projects: Execute special projects assigned by the President or supervisor.

• Compliance Adherence: Ensure compliance with Title IX of the Education Amendments Act of 1972, as well as FNU Policies, Procedures, Rules, and Regulation, the FNU Code of Ethics, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Florida Information Protection Act of 2014 (FIPA), the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and all other applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations.

• Assigned Duties: Undertake other assigned duties as required.

Responsibilities and Duties:  

Clinical Education Administration

• Direct, coordinate, and evaluate all clinical education activities of the program.

• Develop clinical education policies and procedures.

• Ensure clinical experiences support program learning outcomes and curriculum objectives.

• Monitor clinical education effectiveness through ongoing assessment and quality improvement activities.

• Maintain documentation of clinical education activities and student progression.

• Collaborate with the Program Director to support accreditation compliance and program effectiveness initiatives.

Clinical Site Management

• Identify, develop, and maintain clinical affiliate partnerships.

• Coordinate and monitor affiliation agreements.

• Evaluate clinical sites for adequacy of student learning opportunities.

• Conduct regular site visits and maintain documentation of affiliate evaluations.

• Ensure clinical sites provide appropriate equipment, patient populations, and learning experiences.

• Maintain positive relationships with administrators, physicians, sonographers, and clinical instructors at affiliate institutions.

Student Clinical Placement and Supervision

• Coordinate student assignments to affiliated clinical sites.

• Ensure equitable and progressive clinical experiences.

• Monitor student attendance, performance, professionalism, and competency achievement.

• Provide guidance, counseling, and remediation plans for students experiencing academic or clinical difficulties.

• Ensure compliance with clinical requirements, including immunizations, background checks, and other affiliate requirements.

• Serve as instructor of record for assigned clinical education courses.

Clinical Instructor and Preceptor Development

• Recruit, orient, and support clinical instructors and preceptors.

• Provide ongoing training regarding program policies, student evaluation methods, and accreditation expectations.

• Facilitate communication between clinical affiliates and the college.

• Evaluate effectiveness of clinical instructors and clinical education environments.

Accreditation and Regulatory Compliance

• Assist the Program Director in maintaining compliance with JRC-DMS/CAAHEP accreditation standards.

• Participate in accreditation self-studies, annual reports, site visits, and outcomes assessment activities.

• Maintain records related to student clinical competencies and required clinical experiences.

• Ensure clinical education policies align with applicable accreditation standards and professional practice expectations.

Instructional Responsibilities

• Teach assigned didactic, laboratory, and/or clinical courses.

• Develop and revise course materials and clinical learning resources.

• Participate in curriculum review and continuous program improvement.

• Evaluate student learning outcomes and competency achievement.

• Maintain office hours and provide academic advising consistent with institutional requirements.

Program Assessment and Continuous Improvement

• Collect, analyze, and report clinical assessment data.

• Participate in program effectiveness evaluation.

• Assist in preparation of annual program assessment reports.

• Contribute to achievement of retention, completion, credentialing, and employment outcome benchmarks.

Service and Professional Development

• Participate in faculty meetings, college committees, advisory committee activities, and community outreach.

• Maintain professional certification and continuing education.

• Participate in professional organizations such as SDMS, ASRT, ARRT, or other relevant organizations.

• Remain current with emerging sonography technologies, standards, and best practices.

Required Qualifications:  

Education

• Bachelor's degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution required.

• Master's degree preferred.

• Academic credentials must meet institutional and SACSCOC faculty qualification requirements for assigned instructional responsibilities.

Professional Credentials

• Current professional credential in the discipline of instruction through one or more of the following:

  • ARDMS (RDMS, RVT, RDCS as applicable)

  • ARRT (Sonography)

  • Other nationally recognized sonography credentials acceptable to the institution and accrediting agencies.

Experience

• Minimum three (3) years full-time clinical experience in diagnostic medical sonography.

• Minimum two (2) years of experience in clinical instruction, clinical supervision, or educational leadership preferred.

• Demonstrated knowledge of sonography clinical competencies, student assessment, program evaluation, and accreditation standards.

Health & Safety:

·         Must obtain the OSHA training within the first 30 days of employment and thereafter renew as required.

·         Must obtain the CPR training within the first 30 days of employment and thereafter renew as required.

·         Must obtain HIV training within the first 30 days of employment and thereafter renew as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of diagnostic medical sonography clinical practice.

• Knowledge of JRC-DMS/CAAHEP accreditation standards.

• Knowledge of ARRT and ARDMS credentialing expectations.

• Effective leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students, physicians, and clinical affiliates.

• Proficiency in educational technology and clinical tracking systems.

• Ability to interpret and analyze program outcome data.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to travel to clinical affiliate sites.

• Ability to demonstrate sonographic scanning techniques and laboratory competencies.

• Ability to sit, stand, walk, and use computer equipment for extended periods.

• Ability to lift, move, or position ultrasound equipment and instructional materials as necessary.

• Compliance with JRC-DMS/CAAHEP accreditation standards.

• Timeliness and accuracy of clinical documentation.

• Contribution to program outcomes, including retention, credentialing success, and graduate placement.

• Participation in accreditation, assessment, and institutional service activities.
