Data Center Field Installations Technician (L2)

Location:  St. Louis (Onsite – Shift Work)

Duration: 3+ months (likely extension and possible permanent conversion)

Start Date:  ASAP

Mandatory Requirements

• Must be a US Citizen or Green Card Holder
• Must have data center experience
• Strong experience in:
• • Structured cabling
  • Cable pulling inside data centers
• Basic knowledge of:
• • Rack & Stack
  • Cabling + Fiber
    

Preferred Skills

• Experience using Fluke tester
• Fiber testing experience
  

Role Overview

The Data Center Field Installations Technician (L2) is responsible for executing and overseeing in-rack installation activities of moderate complexity in a data center environment. This includes rack builds, equipment installation, structured cabling, power distribution, cooling integration (DX and direct-to-chip liquid cooling), and initial system bring-up.

This role requires autonomy, technical understanding, and the ability to validate installation quality while supporting troubleshooting efforts.

Key Responsibilities

Installation & Deployment

• Lead rack build and in-rack deployments based on design documentation
• Interpret rack layouts, elevation diagrams, and cabling schematics
• Perform rack & stack for servers, storage, and network equipment
• Execute structured cabling (fiber and copper) and validate connections
• Install and validate power connections (PDUs, dual feeds)

Cooling Systems

• Configure airflow best practices for DX cooling
• Install and validate direct-to-chip (D2C) liquid cooling systems:
• • Cold plates
  • Hoses
  • Manifolds
• Perform leak checks and ensure proper routing and connections

System Bring-Up

• Perform OS installation and initial configuration
• Validate hardware functionality (POST, BIOS, firmware checks)
• Conduct basic network connectivity testing

Quality Assurance

• Verify installations against design specifications
• Perform audits of cabling, power, and labeling
• Validate airflow and cooling setups
• Identify and resolve defects or escalate issues

Team & Coordination

• Guide L1 technicians and support best practices
• Coordinate with engineering, project teams, and operations
• Maintain documentation and track installation progress

Health & Safety Responsibilities

• Follow all data center safety standards and procedures
• Promote safe working practices and intervene when necessary
• Ensure proper PPE usage
• Follow electrical safety guidelines
• Safely handle liquid cooling systems
• Maintain clean and safe workspaces
• Report hazards and safety incidents

Required Qualifications (L2)

• Proven experience in data center installation roles
• Strong understanding of:
• • Servers, storage, and networking hardware
  • Rack infrastructure
• Experience with:
• • Structured cabling (fiber & copper)
  • Cable management best practices
  • Rack power distribution (PDUs, redundancy concepts)

Cooling Knowledge

• DX airflow management
• Direct-to-chip (D2C) liquid cooling installation & validation

System Deployment

• OS installation and imaging tools (PXE / ISO / automation tools)
• BIOS and firmware configuration
• Hardware validation and troubleshooting

Additional Skills

• Ability to read technical drawings and MOPs
• Strong troubleshooting skills
• Ability to work independently and guide junior staff
• Knowledge of data center safety standards
• Physically capable of handling demanding installation tasks
