Team Leader – Social and Health Services Division (SHS) Location: Downtown Seattle, WA. This position carries a partial juvenile litigation caseload and supervises up to five attorneys who handle juvenile litigation, appeals, and related work. The role requires attending court appearances in downtown Seattle, the Central District of Seattle, and Kent, either in person or via Zoom. Responsibilities Provide attorney‑of‑the‑day coverage on juvenile court calendars. Review referrals for legal sufficiency, discovery, and witness statements, and prepare case files. Write and respond to motions and offer case‑specific advice to client agency social workers. Supervise, coach, mentor, and evaluate attorneys, supporting their professional development. Oversee weekly case assignments, workload distribution, and coverage of 11–12 calendars per week. Participate in division leadership meetings, assist with operational processes, and monitor progress toward divisional goals. Meet with client agencies to provide training, consult on case‑related issues, and address operational challenges. Qualifications Solid understanding of child welfare law and practice, and the ability to stay current with frequent legislative, case law, and policy changes. Juvenile or related trial experience and excellent trial skills. Exceptional communication skills, including approachability, active listening, and outstanding writing and oral advocacy. Strong interpersonal skills, enabling productive relationships within the division and with courts, client agencies, and stakeholders. Proactive problem‑solving ability, with the capacity to propose pragmatic solutions and follow through on implementation. Excellent organizational skills and the ability to multi‑task within an active caseload and supervisory duties. Capability to handle emotionally difficult subject matter and support direct reports in coping with stressful situations. Patience, sensitivity, and discretion in addressing performance and personnel issues. Flexibility and capacity to adapt quickly to changing situations.
