Electronics Technician II

Salary $32.31 - $46.07/hour; $5,600.40 - $7,985.47/month; $67,204.80 - $95,825.60/year Anemployee in this class is responsible for performing a variety of assignmentsinvolving installation, maintenance, repair, and modification of two-way radioequipment, laptops, GPS devices, vehicle lighting, and other public safetyrelated electronics. Under general supervision, employee performs tasks whichare of more than average difficulty requiring exercise of reasonable initiativeand independent judgment. Work is reviewed while in progress and uponcompletion through conferences, technical inspections, observation, and resultsobtained. Examples of Duties Installs, maintains, services, and repairs municipalcommunication systems consisting of fixed and mobile base stations, BDAdevices, antennas,mobile and portable radios, GPS's and laptops. Softwareinstallation, vehicle electrical systems, emergency lighting, 700/800 MHztrunking and, P25 digital- installation and service. Checks and prepares equipment to verify that it is readyfor use; loads and unloads heavy equipment and supply items; operates lightautomotive equipment. Works at remote sites; handles an on call 24/7 shift forone week at a time on a rotating 7-week basis. Completes daily time/activity reports; enters detaileddescription ofwork into a computerized work management system withemphasis on time/property/parts/cost tracking. Documents processes and procedures, collaborates and sharesacquired knowledge. Operates radio equipment within a live active environment,using accepted protocols. Performs related work as required. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Considerable knowledge of radiotelephone communication systems, electronic systemprinciples, and computer hardware/software operations. Well versed inelectrical theory, maintenance practices, and safety precautions related toelectronic and radio‑frequency equipment. Skilled in understanding andsupporting the operating principles of radio transmitters and their associatedpower supplies. Working knowledge of methods, tools, equipment, computer software and materialused in radio testing, repair, and maintenance; occupational hazards andappropriate safety precautions; MS Office suite. Ability to detect defects, repair, maintain and install radiocommunications, electrical and electronic equipment; read and work from plansand schematics; establish and maintain effective working relationships withothers; follow oral and written instructions and prepare clear, concise, andaccurate reports; perform duties requiring physical strength and endurance;operate a lightweight motor vehicle. Skilled in diagnosing electrical and electronic problems; use andcare of electrical and electronic repair tools,computer hardware,software and basic networking. Physical Requirements Ability to lift 20-40 lbs., mostly sedentary,indoors, requires extended use of computer, typing and viewing monitor. Minimum Qualifications Graduation from anaccredited high school or vocational school and completion of an equivalent oftwo years college level course work in electronics, radio technology, orcomputer science with three (3) years of experience in electronics work; or anequivalent combination of training and experience. Licenses or Certifications Possessionof a General Radiotelephone Operator’s license issued by the (FCC) FederalCommunications Commission or certification by NABER (National Association ofBusiness and Educational Radio) or APCO (Association of Public SafetyCommunications Officials). Possessionof a valid Florida driver’s license. Possessionof CompTIA A+ or similar certification. Examination Evaluationofeducation and experience. Drug testing is included in allpre-employment processing. Comments Employees may be required to work rotating shifts, includingnights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed. During periods when theMayor issues an emergency declaration for the City of Tampa, all employees will be required to work in preparation, response or recovery activities related tothe stated emergency. #J-18808-Ljbffr
