Controls Technician

We are a leading Trane® independent office that sells, services, repairs, and maintains HVAC equipment for mission‑critical customers across central and eastern North Carolina. Summary Provides programming, technical checkout, owner training, and subs coordination on Building Automation projects. Supports Controls Service as directed and participates in the controls service on‑call program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Follow work schedule as directed by Resource Coordinator. Communicate job status with Lead Technician and Project Manager or Resource Coordinator. Configure, setup, and calibrate end devices on factory or field installed hardware. Create and program site databases. Utilize checkout documentation provided by engineering to verify system performance. Examine and troubleshoot communication links and local area networks. Provide technical assistance to installation subcontractors as required. Identify, analyze and diagnose BAS and system problems through remote interface or onsite. Ensure documentation procedures are followed as an ongoing process. Maintain accurate and complete project notes for engineering as‑built drawings. Back up project database and graphics database to network drive at job completion. Provide remote access information for sites to Virtual Service. Serve as direct customer contact, developing, maintaining, and enhancing customer relationships. Provide on‑site owner training classes for customers. Provide technical support to associates. Maintain company equipment and hardware in good working order. Comply with OSHA, site, and Brady safety standards. Participate in ongoing training opportunities (TPC, online webinars, etc.). Provide flexibility to work overtime/weekends and travel, including occasional overnight travel. Teamwork Demonstrate and promote a spirit of cooperation and teamwork throughout the company. Customer Service Provide responsive, professional, and diplomatic customer service. Answer customer calls and correspondence quickly and politely. Communicate with customers in a friendly, professional, and patient manner. Build and maintain long‑term customer relationships. Address customer concerns immediately and involve other company personnel as needed. Safety Follow all company safety programs and report non‑compliance to your team leader. Notify team leader or safety manager of unsafe conditions. Use proper PPE when necessary. Report all accidents and injuries to your team leader and HR immediately. Complete monthly safety training topics on time. Qualifications Education And/or Experience Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two‑year college or technical school in HVAC, Computer Science, or a related field, and three years field experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Working knowledge of Microsoft products and computers. Knowledge of BACnet, LonTalk, Modbus, networking applications, Ethernet, TCP/IP, IP networks and infrastructure. Experience with Trane, Tridium, Teletrol building automation desired; experience with other control manufacturers (Johnson Controls, Schneider, Honeywell, Siemens, Distech, etc.) will be considered. Computer Skills Microsoft Office. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Valid driver's license. Universal EPA certification. Language Skills Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Write simple correspondence. Effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small group settings to customers, clients, and associates. Mathematical Skills Add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Compute rates, ratios, percentages, and interpret bar graphs. Reasoning Ability Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions. Interpret extensive technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and handle abstract and concrete variables. Physical Demands Occasional sitting; frequent stooping, crouching, kneeling, balancing, climbing, standing, walking, reaching, gripping. Lifting up to 115 lbs. occasionally, up to 50 lbs. frequently, and 25 lbs. constantly. Must be able to talk and hear. Vision requirements: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, focus adjustment. Work Environment The position requires working outdoors, in mechanical/equipment rooms, and under possible extreme weather conditions. Exposure to moving mechanical parts, heavy equipment, wet/humid conditions, high places, fumes, electrical shock, vibration, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold and heat.
