Location of Position Springfield Hospital Center, Rehabilitation Services Department, 6655 Sykesville Road, Sykesville, MD 21784 Main Purpose of Job Under the supervision of a CTRS, the main purpose of this intern position will be to learn to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate Therapeutic Recreation programs for psychiatric inpatients and/or assisted living residents, function as a member of the treatment team, and maintain patient records. This position will also prepare for the profession of therapeutic recreation and NCTRC exam. The candidate must be able to work with individuals with mental health disorders, make decisions in high‑pressure situations, exercise confidentiality regarding patient medical information, and work day, evening, or rotating shifts including holidays and weekends. Minimum Qualifications Experience: Two years of experience assisting in the implementation of prescribed activity therapy programs under the supervision of a healthcare professional, including assisting in patient/client assessments for mentally ill, aged, physically ill or physically disabled patients or developmentally disabled clients. Candidates may substitute the completion of 60 credit hours from an accredited college or university, with at least 15 credit hours in health services, human services, education or the behavioral sciences for the required experience. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Therapy classifications or Therapy specialty codes in the Therapeutic Recreation field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience. Licenses, Registrations and Certifications Must possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland if required to operate an automobile. Must possess a Class “C” motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland if required to operate certain vehicles. Must successfully complete and maintain current certification of cardiopulmonary resuscitation training. Must obtain Red Cross instruction and certification in Life Saving and Water Safety if required for facilities with a swimming pool. Special Requirements Employees in this classification are subject to call‑in and must provide a telephone number where they can be reached. Benefits Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage; the State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost. You may also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but you will be responsible for paying the full premium for these benefits. Leave may be granted to a contractual employee at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
