Front Desk Volunteer - Officer of First Impression

CENTER FOR DOMESTIC PEACE is a nonprofit organization, founded in 1977, working at the county, state, and national level to end domestic violence. Center for Domestic Peace (C4DP) serves women, men, and youth who have been, and/or who are at risk of being, abused and/or battered, or who have perpetrated, and/or who are at risk of perpetrating, abuse, bullying, and/or battering. C4DP’s programs helping children, teens, women, and men to live violence-free lives include: 24-hour hotlines; emergency shelter; transitional housing; support groups; legal advocacy; school programs; community prevention and education projects; professional continuing education programs; corporate, state, and nation-wide trainings; leadership development programs; and resource identification.

POSITION OVERVIEW: The Officer of First Impression is a volunteer role that serves as the welcoming face of the Center for Domestic Peace. This position ensures that every visitor, participant, donor, and caller experience warmth, professionalism, and safety from the moment they arrive or make contact. Volunteers in this role support the Executive Administrator and program staff with essential front desk and administrative tasks, connect individuals to critical support services, and help maintain a welcoming and organized environment at C4DP’s administrative office.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

These are the core functions of the job. Additional duties may be assigned as needed.

Front Desk & Reception

1. Greet and welcome all visitors, clients, and guests in a warm, professional, and trauma-informed manner
2. Answer and direct incoming phone calls; take accurate messages as needed
3. Monitor the front desk area and maintain a tidy, organized reception space
4. Assist with signing in visitors and directing them to the appropriate staff or program area
5. Ensure confidentiality and safety protocols are followed at all times

Administrative Support

1. Assist the Executive Administrator with general administrative tasks such as filing, copying, scanning, and data entry
2. Help prepare materials, packets, or mailings as requested by staff
3. Support the coordination of organizational events or special projects assigned
4. Maintain awareness of available C4DP services and provide basic resource information to callers and visitors

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

1. Warm, professional, and approachable demeanor
2. Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills
3. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment
4. Reliability and punctuality; commitment to scheduled volunteer shifts
5. Comfort working in a human services or nonprofit environment
6. Sensitivity to the dynamics of domestic violence and alignment with Center for Domestic Peace’s feminist, survivor-centered values, Statement of Purpose, and organizational philosophy
7. Demonstrated cultural awareness and the ability to build a common agenda with people from different cultures than your own
8. Must meet screening requirements, which include criminal justice clearance and fingerprinting as required by C4DP
9. Completion of required volunteer orientation and training prior to first shift

Preferred:

1. Experience in administration, reception, or customer service setting
2. Familiarity with or commitment to issues of domestic violence, social justice, or survivor advocacy
3. Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, email, data entry)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Ability to remain at or near the front desk for extended periods
2. Ability to communicate continuously by speech and hearing
3. Ability to write by hand and use a keyboard to perform general administrative functions
4. Visual acuity needed for detail work, reading, and computer use
5. Ability to move within the office environment
