Educational Interpreter Program Adjunct Faculty – Fall Semester 2026 Position: Adjunct Faculty | Campus: Plainfield | Department: American Sign Language | Type: Full‑time, Part‑time, Adjunct, Regular or Temporary, Grants General Description The faculty member will be responsible for teaching courses as assigned and must demonstrate a willingness to teach in‑person classes, as well as be certified to teach online courses. Responsibilities Teaches assigned courses in accordance with the description published in the catalog and the approved course syllabus, following the class schedule and incorporating interactive approaches, technologies, and methods when possible. Incorporates an appreciation of diverse lifestyles, cultures, and national perspectives into courses. Incorporates the use of the library, writing, computing, and other academic technologies into courses when possible. Meets all scheduled class meetings. Advises the Division Dean/Assistant Dean of absences in a timely manner. Maintains accurate grade and attendance records for students and submits required reports to the Dean or Student Records Office. Submits grades per published deadline. Participates in the assessment of learning outcomes and demonstrates the use of assessment results in course planning. Plans in advance to ensure availability of supplies, textbooks, and classroom equipment required for successful teaching. Submits progress reports on students for counseling, athletic oversight, and record‑keeping purposes, and discusses any problems requiring special attention with counselors and other appropriate personnel. Adheres to college policies and procedures. Education Requirements Baccalaureate degree required. Master’s degree preferred. Graduated from an American Sign Language – English Interpreting/Translation Program required. National certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf preferred. Must have passed the written portion of the EIPA test. Official college transcripts must be submitted prior to interview. Experience Two years interpreting in the field of ASL‑English Interpreting, or a mentorship in the field with a qualified interpreter through an established mentorship program (preferred). Teaching experience preferred. Competencies and Skills Certification or license as needed and appropriate. Demonstrated ability to teach undergraduates. Willingness to use alternative educational delivery systems and instructional techniques. Commitment to incorporating library, computers, writing, and culturally diverse perspectives into the curriculum. Knowledge of competency‑based education. Commitment to providing out‑of‑class interaction with students. Fundamental competency in the use of information technology. Commitment to continued assessment of the teaching‑learning process and its outcomes. Commitment to continual professional growth and development. Demonstrated mastery of subject matter of the discipline. Physical Demands and Work Environment Perform duties in a typical interior/residence work environment, based on the activity scheduled. Occasional lifting or moving of up to 25 pounds. Limited exposure to physical risk. Some travel required. Terms of Employment Part‑time. Flexible schedule to meet department needs. Some evening, weekend, and extended hours will be required. Ability and willingness to travel on short notice to all on‑ and off‑campus sites as needed. Employee must establish primary residency in New Jersey within one year of appointment unless an exemption applies.
