Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC) to lead pharmacy operations at our non-sterile compounding pharmacy. The ideal candidate brings strong compounding knowledge, a track record of regulatory compliance, and the confidence to own day-to-day operations from prescription verification to staff oversight to Board of Pharmacy readiness. This is a hands-on leadership role — you will be the pharmacist of record, responsible for ensuring clinical accuracy, quality assurance, and full regulatory compliance across both compounded and conventional prescriptions. You will also perform pharmacist verifications (PV1 and PV2) on all compounded preparations. We are building something real, and we need a PIC who wants to build with us.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the Pharmacist-in-Charge and pharmacist of record, maintaining full regulatory accountability for pharmacy operations
• Accurately verify and dispense both conventional and compounded prescriptions with a high standard of clinical review
• Perform PV1 and PV2 verification on compounded preparations to ensure accuracy, integrity, and regulatory compliance
• Ensure pharmacy operations comply with California Board of Pharmacy regulations, DEA requirements, and HIPAA
• Maintain inspection readiness and lead Board of Pharmacy inspections, internal audits, and quality improvement initiatives
• Oversee and enforce adherence to USP <795> guidelines across all non-sterile compounding activities
• Review all prescriptions for completeness, appropriate dosage, drug interactions, and patient-specific considerations
• Oversee QA/QC documentation including Master Formulation Records (MFRs) and Compounding Records (CRs)
• Guide and supervise pharmacy technicians on compounding workflows, labeling, documentation, and best practices
• Manage DEA inventory, controlled substance reporting, and recordkeeping as the responsible party
• Counsel patients on medications — both commercially manufactured and compounded — including proper usage, storage, expected outcomes, and potential side effects
• Collaborate with prescribers to resolve clinical questions, clarify orders, and support optimal patient outcomes
• Maintain accurate prescription records and verification logs in compliance with state and federal requirements

Qualifications

Required:

• Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from an accredited institution
• Active, unrestricted California RPh license in good standing
• 3+ years of experience in an independent, specialty, or compounding pharmacy setting
• Prior designation or experience serving as Pharmacist-in-Charge
• Strong working knowledge of compounding principles and USP <795> guidelines
• Demonstrated experience with Board of Pharmacy inspection processes and regulatory compliance reporting
• Proficient in processing high-volume conventional prescriptions accurately and efficiently
• Proficient in PV1/PV2 verification workflows
• Proficient in pharmacy software systems (DigitalRx)
• Experience supervising and managing pharmacy staff
• Sharp attention to detail, sound clinical judgment, and the ability to lead under pressure

Preferred:

• Exposure to hormone therapy, dermatology, pain management, pediatric, or veterinary compounding
• Familiarity with PCAB accreditation standards
• APC membership or compounding certificate program completion
