Job Summary Help enhance patient care and comfort by supporting nursing staff and patients. Join UT Southwestern as a Unit Secretary to contribute to a relationship-based care nursing method. Key Responsibilities Maintain high level of service for internal and external customers. Answer phone and ensure patient requests are disseminated to nursing staff appropriately. Transcribe orders accurately and promptly, demonstrating working knowledge of medical terminology; write efficient, legible documentation. Synchronize scheduling of tests and procedures with appropriate departments in an efficient and timely manner. Prioritize "stat" and "now" orders above routine orders and communicate priority, incomplete, illegible orders or non-approved abbreviations to Charge Nurse promptly. File reports and documents in patient's medical record according to policy, including placing lab results on chart prior to physician rounds. Thin patient charts by removing reports and documents per policy, store thinned records appropriately. Keep unit stocked with supplies, including forms, and maintain par levels; order supplies and coordinate repairs of equipment as needed. Maintain correct bed status for patients, enter daily unit charges, and return rental equipment. Communicate appropriately with patients/families, physicians, and staff, relaying information accurately and timely. Report errors promptly and assume accountability for all actions. Orient new staff and students and assist colleagues to support a productive work environment. Perform other duties as assigned. Experience and Education High school diploma or equivalent; no experience required. Preferred: Health Unit Coordinator Certification (CHUC) and hospital or acute care experience.
