Job Description
The Purchasing Agent will support increased business volume by accurately entering and managing large, complex purchase orders during a period of ERP implementation and system transition. This is a contract role with the potential to transition to permanent employment based on performance and business needs. You will play a key role in clearing a backlog of purchase orders, ensuring data accuracy, and maintaining smooth communication with internal teams and external suppliers.
Responsibilities
- Accurately enter large purchase orders, often with 100–150 line items, into the system using manual data entry processes.
- Follow established standard work procedures and guidelines to ensure consistency and compliance.
- Use Excel for data entry, tracking, and basic analysis of purchase order information.
- Use Outlook for email communication with internal stakeholders and external suppliers.
- Communicate effectively via phone and email to provide updates on orders, address issues, and clarify requirements.
- Ensure high levels of data accuracy by reviewing entries and maintaining strong attention to detail.
- Manage multiple purchase orders and tasks simultaneously while meeting deadlines and productivity expectations.
- Support inventory purchasing activities by applying a solid understanding of inventory management principles.
- Process and manage purchase requisitions in alignment with current processes and policies.
- Utilize ERP software to enter, track, and manage purchase orders as part of an ongoing ERP implementation.
- Collaborate with internal and external customers to ensure that all parties follow established processes and procedures.
- Confidently hold individuals accountable to current purchasing and process standards when necessary.
- Demonstrate a driven attitude, strong work ethic, and self-starting approach in a fast-paced environment.
- Consistently arrive on time and maintain reliable attendance to support team and business needs.
- Hands-on experience with inventory purchasing and a strong understanding of how to manage inventory.
- Experience working with purchase requisitions and related purchasing processes.
- Practical experience using ERP software in a purchasing, order entry, or data entry capacity.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel for data entry and Outlook for communication.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to interact professionally with internal teams and external suppliers.
- Ability to provide clear updates on orders, address issues, and ensure adherence to established processes.
- High attention to detail and accuracy in data entry, especially with large, multi-line purchase orders.
- Ability to multitask and manage time effectively to meet deadlines and productivity goals.
- Demonstrated strong work ethic, reliability, and a driven, results-focused attitude.
- Comfort holding individuals accountable to current purchasing and process standards.
- Experience with purchase order and order entry processes in a manufacturing or similar environment.
- General data entry experience involving high volumes of detailed information.
- Familiarity with broader Microsoft Office tools beyond Excel and Outlook.
- Self-starter mindset, with the ability to work independently while following established procedures.
- Promptness and consistent on-time arrival for scheduled work hours.
- Ability to adapt to an evolving environment during ERP implementation and business growth.

This role is a 6-month contract position with standard hours of 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with some flexibility available. The work environment is business casual, with a dress code that requires casual, closed-toe shoes. Steel toe shoes are required when accessing the manufacturing floor. You will work primarily in an office setting, using ERP software, Microsoft Excel, and Outlook to manage purchase orders and communicate with colleagues and suppliers. The organization is in a period of significant growth and is expecting to triple in size over the next 5–10 years, offering strong potential for future career development. There are merit reviews that can lead to pay increases, typically taking effect in July, and bonus opportunities twice a year for employees who transition to permanent roles. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $21.00 - $27.00/hr.
