Bakery/Deli Clerk

Responsibilities Prepare items per customer requests using proper bakery equipment. Offer product samples to help customers discover new items or products they inquire about. Inform customers of bakery and/or deli specials. Provide customers with fresh products that they have ordered and the correct portion size to prevent shrink. Recommend deli or bakery items to customers to ensure they get the products they want and need. Use all bakery equipment such as refrigerators, freezers, slicers, and ovens according to company guidelines. Prepare foods according to the food temperature logs and follow cooking instructions. Measure, prepare and mix ingredients according to recipe, using variety of kitchen utensils and equipment. Adequately prepare, package, label and inventory merchandise. Check product quality to ensure freshness; review sell‑by dates and take appropriate action. Label, stock and inventory department merchandise. Report product ordering or shipping discrepancies to the department manager. Understand the store layout and locate products requested by customers. Stay current with present, future, seasonal and special ads. Maintain knowledge of department products and respond to customer inquiries with suggestions. Maintain awareness of inventory/stocking conditions and note any discrepancies. Ensure proper temperatures in cases and coolers are maintained and temperature logs are kept. Promote trust and respect among associates. Create an environment that enables customers to feel welcomed, important and appreciated by answering product questions. Adhere to all food‑safety regulations and guidelines. Reinforce safety programs by complying with procedures; identify unsafe conditions and notify management. Practice preventive maintenance by inspecting equipment and notifying appropriate staff of needed repairs. Notify management of customer or employee accidents. Work cooperatively in a high‑paced and sometimes stressful environment. Manage conflict in a reasonable, nonconfrontational and cooperative manner. Act with honesty and integrity regarding customer and business information. Follow directions and seek assistance when necessary to resolve customer and business issues. Provide support and assistance through direct interaction with minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults. Perform essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation. Qualifications Knowledge of basic math. Ability to obtain a current food handlers permit once employed. Bakery or Deli experience is helpful.
