JOB DESCRIPTION
Under supervision, the Hospital Unit Service Coordinator (HUSC) is responsible for communicating clear and concise information to the members of the OR staff, medical staff, and other hospital departments. Responsible for all activities described in the HUSC job description and accountable to the Patient Care Manager, Systems Manager, and/or charge nurse in the Operating Room. Responsibilities Answers telephones and intercoms as needed, according to the UCSF Medical Center Telephone Standards. Greets staff, patients, families, and visitors in an appropriate and professional manner. Receives and relays information to the appropriate personnel intra-/inter-departmentally, accurately and in a timely fashion. Directs staff/visitors/patients/families to the appropriate areas. Registers visitors in the visitor log book. Assigns visitor lockers as needed, and distributes appropriate ID badges to visitors. Communicates OR scheduling changes/cancellations/delays to the charge nurse. Makes necessary phone calls as directed by the charge nurse. Pages necessary personnel as required to assist in the smooth running of the OR. Ability to organize and effectively set priorities in communication of problems and/or concerns presented by physicians, patients, and staff to patient care personnel in the Perioperative area. Maintains desk area in a neat and orderly manner. Orders office supplies as needed. Time Allocation 60%: Essential function ongoing; identify the function or task that employees in the job perform. The essential functions should state the purpose of the work and the results to be accomplished. 15%: Receives and relays information to appropriate personnel. 5%: Directs staff/visitors/patients/families; registers visitors; distributes badges. 5%: Communicates scheduling changes to the charge nurse. 5%: Makes calls and pages personnel as required. 5%: Organizes and prioritizes communications from physicians, patients, and staff. Living Pride Standards Demonstrates service excellence by following the Everyday PRIDE Guide with the UCSF Medical Center standards and expectations for communication and behavior. Standards include personal appearance, greeting patients and families, introductions using AIDET, managing up, service recovery, phone standards, electronic communication, teamwork, cultural sensitivity, and competency. Uses effective communication skills with patients and staff; demonstrates proper telephone techniques and etiquette; escorts patients or families needing directions; models PRIDE standards in interactions. Exhibits tact and professionalism in difficult situations according to PRIDE Values and Practices. Adheres to privacy, confidentiality, and security policies related to PHI or other sensitive information. Adheres to safety and infection control policies and procedures. Assumes accountability for improving quality metrics and meeting organizational/departmental targets. Work Environment Keeps working areas neat, orderly, and clutter-free; adheres to cleaning processes and reports damaged equipment. Picks up and disposes of litter throughout the facility. Posts flyers in designated areas only; does not post on walls, doors, or windows. Knows where the Environment of Care Manual is kept and reports unsafe conditions. Protects the physical environment and equipment from damage and theft. Other Functions and Responsibilities Duties not essential or intrinsic to the job may be performed at times. Possible statement: “Perform other duties as assigned.” Performs other duties as assigned. QualificationsREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
High school graduate with training and experience in typing and filing. Effective communication/verbal skills. Knowledge of medical/surgical terminology. Knowledge of standard office methodology. Good typing and computer skills. Ability to work effectively with all members of the nursing and medical staff. Ability to work under stress and prioritize multiple tasks. Ability to handle incoming calls and requests. Maintains flexibility in relation to assignment, shift assignment, or work schedule.
