Job Summary: The Psychiatrist provides a full range of psychiatric services to student patients of the Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) within Division of Student Affairs at St. John's University. This includes psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, follow-up and referral when indicated; as well as consultation and training to the professional staff of CAPS. Working within a multidisciplinary health and counseling team, the psychiatrist supports student well-being, academic success, and retention through evidence-based, student-centered psychiatric care.

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual salary range for this position is $185,000-$195,000. Essential Functions:

- Provide psychiatric treatment of eligible St. John's University students to include: (a) evaluation and assessment, especially for appropriateness of pharmacotherapy; (b) pharmacotherapy and medication management where appropriate;
- Referral of clients who exceed the scope of service of CAPS to appropriate disposition in the community.
- Educate the client on the potential benefits of medication, group, or individual therapy and making referrals to other campus partners for non-counseling issues.
- Provide consultation with CAPS regarding psychiatric needs of clients, including collaboration in treatment planning and therapy provision where appropriate.
- Participate in weekly CAPS staff meeting and clinical treatment team sessions.
- Complete appropriate documentation of evaluation and therapy services provided through dictated and/or written records for placement in client files.
- Provide emergency psychiatric service as needed, including facilitating in-patient admission and related services, usually in collaboration with other CAPS Staff.
- Communicate with providers at hospitals to assist with the care and transition of students to and from psychiatric hospitals.
- Serve as a resource to the University Student of Concern Committee, as needed.
- Provide staff development and educational seminars on selected matters of psychiatric expertise to CAPS staff and trainees.
- Establish clinical policies and guidelines for the provision of psychiatric services.
- Assist with the development of protocols and policies for treatment of ADHD/LD, chronic and severe mental illnesses to reflect best practices, department mission, and psychiatric treatment guidelines.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the CAPS Director.
- Stay up to date on psychiatric best practices, psychopharmacology, and student mental health trends.
- Clinical Expertise - Advanced knowledge of psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and treatment.

- This role operates primarily in a clinical office environment within St. John's University's health and counseling center.
- Interaction involves frequent contact with students experiencing varying degrees of mental health challenges.
- Work is typically performed in a confidential, private setting but may also require telehealth delivery.
- Ability to remain in a stationary position (sitting/standing) for extended periods while conducting evaluations and follow up visits.
- Frequent use of computers, phones, and medical records systems.
- May need to respond quickly in emergency or crisis situations.
- Light physical activity such as walking between campus locations may be required.
- Standard clinical/office environment with minimal exposure to adverse conditions.
- Some exposure to emotionally charged situations when working with students in crisis.
- Requires maintaining a calm, professional demeanor in stressful circumstances.
- Full-time position; specific schedule to be determined in collaboration with the Director of Counseling.
- Flexible hours with potential for evening or weekend availability during peak times.
- Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic (D.O.).
- Licensed Physician (Psychiatrist) in the State of New York.
- Board certified or board-eligible in Psychiatry with adolescent and adult populations.
- Experience working with under-served populations and clinical co-morbidities (e.g., co-occurring mental health, substance abuse, and physical health problems).
- Knowledge and skills in pharmacotherapy for young adults and up-to-date knowledge of research and best clinical practices.
- Specialized knowledge of the treatment of mood and anxiety disorders, eating disorders, substance abuse, trauma, sexual abuse, chronic and severe mental illness, and other issues common among the college mental health population.
- Keyboard skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office, Electron Health Records scheduling such as Titanium, MediCat, Point N Click, etc.
- Familiarity with the young adult and college age population.
- Familiarity with integrative approaches to psychotherapy and medication management.
- Excellent communication and consulting skills in a large multidisciplinary team environment.
- Positive, flexible, and solution-focused attitude.
- Ability to quickly synthesize medical and psychiatric data and formulate effective and evidence-based clinical recommendations.
- Ability to collaborate effectively in a team setting.
- Experience working in higher education or with young adult populations.
- Demonstrated knowledge of integrated behavioral health models.
- Training or certification in trauma-informed care.
- Experience with electronic health records (EHR) and telehealth platforms.
