Position Overview

Our organization is in search of a remarkable national leader to take on the role of Vice President and System Chief of Pediatric Cardiology .

The individual in this position will co-direct the Cohen Children's Heart Center alongside the System Chief of Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery. Established in 2022, the Cohen Children's Heart Center aims to integrate the long-standing multidisciplinary teams that provide care for both children and adults with congenital heart conditions across our extensive network of 28 hospitals. Our pediatric cardiovascular services span a wide geographical area, including Long Island, Queens, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Staten Island, and Westchester, with plans for future expansion into the Hudson Valley and Western Connecticut. This role also offers opportunities for research, advocacy, and the education of medical students, residents, and fellows. A faculty appointment will be available at the Zucker School of Medicine, with clinical rank based on experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage clinical operations while advancing the academic and research objectives of the Pediatric Cardiology Division.

• Direct Pediatric Cardiology Services throughout our organization, including establishing clinical strategies, formulating clinical guidelines, and enhancing service offerings and quality.

• Broaden subspecialty programs, such as advanced imaging (MRI/CT), interventional catheterization, fetal echocardiography, electrophysiology, heart failure, and transplantation.

• Act as a senior liaison between the division's faculty and hospital administration.

In partnership with Hospital and Pediatric Service Line leadership, oversee the annual operating budgets for the Pediatric Cardiology Division to ensure financial targets are achieved or surpassed.

Preferred Qualifications

• Recognized national clinical leader with a solid history of mentorship, education, and academic research.
• Significant administrative experience in developing and expanding high-acuity pediatric programs within a complex healthcare system.
• Excellent collaborative communication skills to work effectively with pediatric surgery, neonatology, and intensive care teams.
• Board certification in Pediatric Cardiology from the American Board of Pediatrics.

Pediatric Cardiology Services

Under the guidance of the System Chiefs of Pediatric Cardiology and Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery, the Cohen Children's Heart Center operates as a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary team dedicated to clinical and academic excellence. We are among the highest volume programs in New York State, conducting over 17,000 inpatient and outpatient visits annually across 12 treatment locations. Our center is the sole institution on Long Island providing comprehensive cardiac and surgical care from pregnancy through adulthood for congenital heart disease.

Our state-of-the-art 125,000 square-foot inpatient pavilion features a newly renovated interventional cardiac catheterization lab that utilizes the lowest-dose radiation available, a specialized pediatric cardiac intensive care team, and the only dedicated pediatric electrophysiology lab on Long Island. Additionally, we are equipped to implant a full range of percutaneous valves and operate the only ECMO program across Long Island, Queens, Brooklyn, and Staten Island.

In response to rapid clinical growth, The Heart Center is enhancing its specialized care capabilities. We have established a dedicated pediatric CICU team with advanced practice providers and are in the process of planning a new, cutting-edge CICU facility. Our Advanced Heart Failure and Heart Transplantation program, initiated in 2024, is flourishing. The Adult Congenital Heart Disease Program, in collaboration with the Cardiovascular Institute, is staffed by three ACHD board-certified cardiologists and two surgeons, and is recognized by the ACHA as a Comprehensive Care Center. The division includes a robust faculty of over 30 pediatric cardiac specialists, fellows, and a dedicated multidisciplinary care team.

Education and Training Opportunities

Cohen Children's Medical Center provides a three-year ACGME-accredited Pediatric Cardiology Fellowship program, along with a fully funded fourth-year imaging fellowship. The clinical exposure encompasses a wide range of pediatric cardiology practices, from primary care to complex congenital and acquired heart diseases in patients from fetal stages to adulthood. With facilities across Long Island, Queens, Brooklyn, Staten Island, Manhattan, and Westchester, we serve a large and diverse population, delivering nearly 40,000 births annually, which represents 10% of births in New York and 1% nationally.

The pediatric cardiology faculty offers fellows comprehensive clinical, didactic, and research training, enabling many to pursue subspecialty training following their categorical fellowships.

Research and Clinical Trials

The division actively engages in an academic environment in partnership with the Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research. Our investigators lead multicenter clinical trials and maintain strong participation in national registries such as the Pediatric Heart Transplant Society (PHTS), the Advanced Cardiac Therapies Improving Outcomes Network (ACTION), and the Pediatric Cardiac Critical Care Consortium (PC4).

Opened in 1983, our medical center is the only hospital in the New York metropolitan area designed exclusively for children. Today, it stands as the largest pediatric teaching hospital in the region, with over 750,000 visits each year, serving 1.8 million children across Brooklyn, Queens, Nassau, and Suffolk counties. It is the tertiary pediatric medical center within our health system and the only Level-1 Pediatric Trauma Center in Queens and Nassau County.
