System Chief, Division of Infectious Diseases

the client is seeking an accomplished and experienced physician or exceptional PhD researcher (with a clinical partner) to serve as system chief for the division of infectious diseases within the department of medicine. This senior leadership role will advance clinical, research, and educational priorities, with a particular emphasis on clinical and translational research supported by NIH grants. The system chief will provide oversight across a large, multidisciplinary division spanning inpatient and ambulatory settings, and will help strengthen the division’s connection to medical education and the community. Responsibilities include overall management of the system division across the client health system, including development of an academically oriented training program, growth of in-hospital and ambulatory clinical services, and expansion of basic, clinical, and translational research programs. The role will oversee teaching for medical students, postdoctoral trainees, and continuing medical education, and will develop and maintain fellowship training programs consistent with relevant requirements. The system chief is expected to grow NIH-funded research by providing leadership in program project or center grant efforts, pursuing NIH training grant opportunities, and supporting mentored awards, while also mentoring junior faculty and serving as a catalyst for a collaborative, collegial culture. In addition, the system chief will support growth of inpatient and outpatient clinical services, oversee quality of care across inpatient services, outpatient clinics, and faculty practice, and develop strategic plans aligned with departmental and institutional goals. Candidates must have an MD or MD/PhD, or be a highly qualified PhD, and must have or be eligible for a medical license and be board certified or eligible in infectious diseases. Additional requirements include demonstrated leadership experience in academic medicine, clinical practice, or professional organizations, as well as national recognition in clinical, translational, and/or basic research, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to sustain and grow all missions of the division. Preferred qualifications include a history of extramural research funding and publications in high-impact journals, a demonstrated commitment to quality and safety, and the ability to serve as an effective facilitator who inspires trust.
