Brooklyn Heights Montessori School (BHMS) is currently seeking to fill the following hourly roles starting in September 2026. This is a per diem position with compensation of $25/hour.  Additional substitute teacher hours up to a total of 29 hours per week are available on an as-needed basis. • Early Childhood Support (8:30-2pm) 5.5 hours a day, up to 29 hours a week
• Classroom Support + Lunch/Recess + Afterschool Teacher (11:15-2:00 + 2:45- 5 or 6pm, daily)

Duties are as follows:

• Supervise one early childhood or elementary classroom during lunch 
• Supervise one early childhood or elementary classroom on the playground during recess
• Transition students between lunch and recess spaces
• Support classroom teachers with care of the classroom
• Monitor hallway spaces during dismissal
• Care for outdoor spaces and recess equipment
• Transition students to after-school enrichment classes
• Facilitate games and safe play during after-school outdoor play
• Facilitate games and activities during after-school indoor play
• Maintain a rotation of engaging toys and activities for indoor play
• Model, teach, and reinforce social skills and self-regulation skills

Required skills:

• Ability to work with children age 3-12
• Ability to manage group sizes up to 20
• Ability to plan and execute group activities, games and play
• Sense of humor and love of young children
• Willingness to learn and use principles of Positive Discipline and Montessori philosophy
• Ability to collaborate with a partner and within a team
• Ability to clearly and promptly communicate by phone, email, and walkie-talkie
• Flexibility to accommodate changes in schedule or location of activities
• Professionalism in presence, performance, and behavior
• Bachelor's Degree preferred
• 3+ years of experience with Pre-K through elementary age children
• Knowledge or training in Montessori preferred
• Must be eligible to work in the U.S.
