Job Summary The Laboratory Technician supports a petroleum product quality control laboratory in Kansas City, KS. This role is responsible for performing product testing and analytical evaluations in accordance with established procedures and standards. The technician operates with a high degree of independence, contributing to routine testing as well as special projects and programs. This position requires a strong understanding of laboratory operations and the impact of analytical data on business decisions. The technician also plays a key role in maintaining laboratory excellence by supporting continuous improvement efforts, equipment maintenance, calibration, and housekeeping. A flexible schedule is required, including the ability to work evenings and weekends as needed. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Perform analysis of product samples, including testing, specification comparison, and results reporting. Generate accurate and timely reports for both internal stakeholders and external customers. Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance laboratory processes and performance. Maintain laboratory cleanliness, organization, and compliance through routine housekeeping and equipment upkeep. Perform basic equipment maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting as needed. Collaborate with program administrators to ensure effective program execution and ongoing support. Participate in training, special projects, and other laboratory initiatives as assigned. Education Four‑year degree from an accredited university or college with a major in a natural science with laboratory component (e.g., Chemistry, Biology, Physics or Earth Sciences). Experience Two years of experience and a comprehensive understanding of product specifications, test procedures, test significance, and the value the larger organization derives from lab‑generated analytical data. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Communicate effectively orally and in writing in English with co‑workers, supervisors, and internal and external customers. Work in stressful conditions, adapt and respond to changing circumstances. Use a personal computer with the Windows® operating system to complete timesheets, send and receive emails, and access information posted on the Company’s intranet. Work on both a scheduled and call‑out basis, as needed, and at the assigned job site. Licenses and Certifications None required. Physical Demands and Requirements Light work: exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly (constant activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time). Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for sedentary work. Working Conditions/Environment Employee is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions including well‑lighted, climate‑controlled areas, occasional outdoor weather conditions, wet or humid conditions, extreme cold or heat, dust, fumes, gases, moving mechanical parts, potential electric shock, prolonged exposure to vibration, high‑pitched or loud noises, unprotected heights, frequent repetitive motion, and constant use of CRT computer monitors. Travel Some travel may be required. Driving may be required based on assigned tasks or assigned a company vehicle requiring the applicable driver’s license.
