It is a Magnet Hospital certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. The Department of Laboratories is a full‐service laboratory operating 24 hours a day. Laboratory services are available in Hematology, Immunology, Chemistry, Toxicology, Flow Cytometry, Cytology, Surgical Pathology, Microbiology, and Transfusion Medicine. In addition, the laboratory operates a Histocompatibility Laboratory, a blood donor/pheresis service, a Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory and a Bone Marrow/Stem Cell Preservation Laboratory to support the tertiary care mission of BJH and diagnostic needs of BJC HealthCare. The laboratory also oversees point‑of‑care testing hospital‑wide and performs analysis on specimens of blood, urine, other body fluids, and tissue submitted for testing on order of a physician or other health‑care provider approved to order laboratory testing. Preferred Qualifications Role Purpose As a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) I, I perform processing and routine testing on blood and other specimens, which requires knowledge of quality control, basic instrument maintenance, procedure methodologies and reference ranges. I demonstrate good laboratory practices. Responsibilities Operate all instrumentation in assigned areas to deliver precise, timely, and accurate laboratory results, performing all testing and operation of equipment as necessary. Report results through the laboratory computer system accurately, meeting published turnaround times for routine testing and stats. Perform quality controls for all equipment and troubleshoot malfunctioning instrumentation as necessary. Participate in performance improvement activities and initiatives by proactively diagnosing and resolving problems; specific quality functions are handled in an organized and timely fashion.
