Responsibilities Obtaining extensive medical history Assessing, diagnosing, and treating acute illness and other primary medical care within the scope of practice Prescribing appropriate therapies, including medication Providing ongoing medication monitoring Ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, including laboratory, radiological, and EKGs Performing common office‑based procedures Documenting all pertinent data in patient’s electronic medical record accurately and timely Following up with patients and families as appropriate Referring clients to specialists or community resources as appropriate Providing a holistic approach to patient care, including patient education as appropriate Minimum Qualifications To qualify as a Physician Assistant: Graduation and/or completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs and an active Physician Assistant License issued by the North Carolina Medical Board (NCMB). To qualify as a Nurse Practitioner: Licensed as a Registered Nurse by the North Carolina Board of Nursing, completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner program, and “approved to practice medical acts” by the Joint Subcommittee.
