Department Summary The Arthur Ashe Student Health and Wellness Center (The Ashe Center) supports UCLA students in achieving their educational goals through personalized, high-quality health and wellness services. Services include Primary Care, Gynecology Services, Immunizations, Travel Medicine, Physical Therapy, Specialty Clinics, Radiology & Laboratory, and Acupuncture—all under one roof, along with optometry and pharmacy services. Position Summary The Orthopedic Technician (OT) serves patients and assists clinicians at the Ashe Center, primarily supporting Sports Medicine Clinicians and Orthopedists. The OT performs casting, brace fitting, patient education, and other orthopedic tasks, working independently with minimal supervision while collaborating with the clinical team. Salary & Compensation UCLA provides a full pay range that considers budget, experience, skills, education, licensure, and certifications. Benefits begin on day one. Qualifications 3-5 years of experience in orthopedic care, including cast application, brace fitting, and patient education. Knowledge of orthopedic care techniques and practices. Ability to recognize limitations and defer judgment to others when necessary. Strong understanding of patient rights, confidentiality, and informed consent. Ability to maintain calm in challenging situations. Excellent interpersonal skills for working with diverse populations. Effective time‑management and prioritization skills. Proficiency in communication theory and practice. Ability to convey medical information clearly to patients and staff. Competence in using medical software and technology. Ability to perform duties with cultural sensitivity. Professionalism in maintaining positive relationships with staff and patients. Proficiency in using a PC and knowledge of software such as MS Office, Word, and Outlook. Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations Orthopedic Technician certification by NBCOT or ASOP. CPR certification upon hire. Age requirement: candidates must be 18 years or older. Pre‑placement physical: employment contingent upon satisfactory physical examination. TB test: continued employment contingent upon satisfactory TB test.
