Industrial Mobile Fleet Maintenance Mechanic

Location: Bay Minette, Alabama
Engagement: Contract through May 2027
Compensation: Up to $37.25/hour (based on proven work history)

A day in this role

You start your shift by reviewing overnight breakdowns and PM intervals. The first machine on your list is a forklift due for a 500-hour service; you verify safety devices, swap filters, and document it in the CMMS. A call comes in for a sweeper with a hydraulic leak—within minutes you’ve traced the issue, replaced a line, and returned it to service. Before lunch, you complete a crane inspection, catching a wear issue before it becomes a failure. The afternoon brings a powertrain diagnostic on a telehandler, a welding repair on a personnel cart bracket, and a final check that every unit leaving the bay meets plant operational standards. You finish your shift logging labor, parts, and inspection notes so the fleet’s reliability stays on track.

What you'll take on

• Perform preventive, scheduled, and unscheduled maintenance on mobile assets: forklifts, mobile cranes, manlifts/aerial lifts, personnel carts, pickup and fuel trucks, sweepers, and additional site equipment.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and powertrain systems.
• Complete inspections, safety checks, overhauls, and rebuilds.
• Execute welding and fabrication repairs as needed.
• Troubleshoot breakdowns quickly and restore equipment to service.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and work orders; document labor hours, parts used, inspections, and repairs.
• Verify all safety devices function properly and equipment meets Plant Operational standards.
• Help develop, maintain, and implement preventive maintenance schedules for all mobile equipment.
• Ensure operator maintenance schedules and cleanliness standards are met.
• Promote safe work practices and keep work areas clean and orderly, in the garage and in the field.
• Support equipment reliability and uptime targets.

Minimum qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• 2+ years repairing industrial mobile equipment, heavy equipment, forklifts, loaders, telehandlers, or comparable assets.
• Hands-on ability to diagnose and repair:
  • Diesel engines
  • Hydraulic systems
  • Electrical systems
  • Braking systems
  • Steering systems
• Read and apply OEM service manuals and technical documentation.
• Welding and fabrication repair capability.
• MUST have a VALID Driver's License.
• Comfort working safely in an industrial manufacturing environment.
• Willing and able to work assigned shifts, overtime, weekends, and holidays as required.

Preferred qualifications

• Technical degree or trade school certification in diesel, heavy equipment, or industrial maintenance.
• ASE, OEM, or equivalent certifications.
• Experience with forklifts, wheel loaders, material handlers, telehandlers, and aerial lifts.
• Experience using CMMS platforms (SAP, Prometheus, etc.).
• Mobile equipment inspection and certification experience.
