RN Labor and Delivery Nurse

The Registered Nurse in the Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum (LDRP) unit provides compassionate, high-quality, patient- and family-centered care through comprehensive nursing processes including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. This role involves coordinating individualized patient education, supervising ancillary team members, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, and adhering to professional nursing standards and regulatory requirements. The nurse delivers care across the lifespan with a focus on perinatal care, labor support, delivery, and newborn assessment in a fast-paced hospital environment. Responsibilities:

• Conduct thorough patient assessments and develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans.
• Deliver direct patient care throughout labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum phases.
• Provide culturally sensitive education to patients and families to support health literacy and care transitions.
• Direct and supervise licensed practical nurses, nursing assistants, and ancillary personnel.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in electronic health records.
• Collaborate effectively with physicians, therapists, and the interdisciplinary care team.
• Participate in quality improvement, patient safety initiatives, and ongoing professional development.
• Float to other departments as needed with appropriate orientation and training.
• Perform additional duties as assigned to support hospital operations and patient needs.
• Maintain sterile technique and sterile field during procedures.

• Current New Mexico RN license or active Multi-State Compact (eNLC) license.
• Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification from the American Heart Association or equivalent.
• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
• Current certifications in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Intermediate Fetal Monitoring, and OPS Emergency Workshop.
• Knowledge and skills in perinatal care, labor support, delivery, and newborn assessment.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and critical-thinking skills.
• Ability to deliver compassionate, culturally competent care to patients of all ages.
• Physical ability to lift, position, and transfer patients using proper body mechanics and assistive equipment.

• SAFER NM Technician certification.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree.
• Experience in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
• Flexibility and adaptability in dynamic clinical situations.

• Frequent exposure to bloodborne pathogens, body fluids, infectious diseases, and biohazardous materials.
• Work primarily in a temperature-controlled hospital setting with occasional exposure to varied sounds, odors, and emotionally challenging situations.
• Ability to work effectively under stress, respond calmly to emergencies, and maintain strong problem-solving and coping skills.
• Team-oriented, adaptable, and resilient in dynamic clinical situations.

• Night shifts in the Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum (LDRP) unit.
• Shift assignments may include floating to other departments with appropriate training.
• Work schedule subject to hospital staffing needs and policies.
