Controller

OCBS is an established Southern California construction company specializing in high-end reconstruction for homeowners and multi-family communities. We are seeking an experienced Controller to lead our four-person accounting team and strengthen the financial operations that support our continued growth. OCBS is continuing to strengthen its systems, processes, and organizational infrastructure to support the company's future. We are looking for a Controller who can help lead that evolution thoughtfully and effectively. The right person will be able to assess existing processes, identify where greater structure or accountability is needed, build support for change, and ensure improvements are successfully implemented and sustained. Just as importantly, this person will recognize what already works well and avoid adding complexity where it does not create value. This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who can balance strong technical accounting expertise with team leadership, process improvement, and effective change management. What You'll Do Lead, manage, and develop a four-person accounting team Establish clear expectations, accountability, and effective operating processes Oversee general ledger, AP, AR, cash management, bank reconciliations, and month-end and year-end close Ensure timely and accurate financial statements and management reporting Oversee construction accounting, including job costing, WIP, contract billing, retainage, change orders, and project-level financial reporting Maintain and strengthen accounting procedures and internal controls Partner with ownership and company leadership on financial reporting, planning, and decision-making Work closely with operations and project management to improve the quality and flow of financial information across the business Manage relationships with the company's CPA, banks, insurance professionals, and other external financial partners Identify opportunities to improve systems, workflows, controls, and reporting—and lead those improvements through implementation Help the accounting team adapt successfully as roles, processes, technology, and business needs evolve What We're Looking For Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field required Significant progressive accounting experience, including experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, or senior accounting leader Construction accounting experience strongly preferred Strong knowledge of job costing and project-based accounting Demonstrated experience leading process, systems, or organizational change Proven ability to manage, develop, and hold employees accountable Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting Experience with Sage or a comparable ERP/accounting system; Sage 100 experience is a plus Advanced Excel skills Strong judgment, organization, and attention to detail Willingness to remain hands-on when needed Ability to communicate effectively across accounting, operations, project teams, senior leadership, and external partners This is an opportunity to take ownership of an established accounting function while helping build the systems, reporting, and financial discipline needed for OCBS's next stage of growth. #J-18808-Ljbffr Orange Coast Building Services
