Position Summary

Weldon City Schools seeks a qualified and student-centered Speech-Therapist to provide comprehensive speech, language, communication, and swallowing services that support student achievement and access to the educational environment. The Speech-Language Pathologist evaluates, identifies, and provides intervention for students with communication disorders and collaborates with educators, families, and related service providers to ensure students receive appropriate supports and services in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Assessment and Evaluation

• Conduct speech, language, voice, fluency, and communication evaluations for students suspected of having communication disorders.
• Administer and interpret formal and informal assessment measures.
• Analyze assessment data and prepare comprehensive evaluation reports.
• Participate in multidisciplinary evaluations and eligibility determination meetings.
• Maintain compliance with timelines and requirements established by IDEA, North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI), and district procedures.

Service Delivery

• Develop and implement individualized speech-language therapy programs aligned with students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
• Provide direct and indirect speech-language services in individual, small-group, and classroom settings.
• Utilize evidence-based practices and interventions to address communication needs.
• Monitor student progress and adjust interventions as needed.
• Support students in developing communication skills that enhance academic, social, and functional performance.

IEP Development and Compliance

• Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to the development of measurable goals and objectives.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation of services, progress monitoring, and Medicaid billing (if applicable).
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and district regulations regarding special education services.
• Prepare progress reports and communicate student progress to families and educational teams.

Collaboration and Consultation

• Collaborate with teachers, administrators, school psychologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, counselors, and other educational professionals.
• Consult with families regarding student communication needs and strategies for home support.
• Provide recommendations for classroom accommodations and modifications.
• Assist staff in understanding communication disorders and their impact on learning.

Program Support

• Maintain therapy materials, assessment tools, and equipment.
• Participate in professional development activities to maintain licensure and clinical competence.
• Support district initiatives related to student achievement, inclusion, and school improvement.
• Serve as a resource to school personnel regarding speech and language development

Additional Duties

• Attend faculty meetings, professional learning communities, and district meetings as assigned.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Exceptional Children Programs or designee.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Thorough knowledge of speech-language disorders and evidence-based intervention practices.
• Knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, FERPA, Medicaid documentation requirements, and North Carolina special education regulations.
• Ability to conduct comprehensive assessments and interpret results accurately.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds and varying abilities.
• Proficiency in technology and electronic record-keeping systems.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet required deadlines.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

• Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited institution.

Licensure/Certification

• Valid North Carolina Speech-Language Pathologist License issued by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Speech and Language Pathologists and Audiologists (NCBOESLPA).
• Eligibility for or possession of a North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) Speech-Language Pathologist License.
• Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) preferred.
• Clinical Fellows (CFs) may be considered in accordance with district needs and licensure requirements.

Experience

• Previous experience working with school-aged children preferred.
• Experience in educational settings and IEP processes preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to move between classrooms and school sites.
• Ability to lift and carry instructional and therapy materials.
• Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms.
• Ability to perform duties requiring sitting, standing, walking, bending, and reaching.

Working Conditions

• Work is performed in school settings, including classrooms, therapy rooms, and other educational environments.
• Frequent interaction with students, staff, parents, and community stakeholders.
• May require travel between school locations within the district.

Terms of Employment

Salary and benefits shall be in accordance with the North Carolina State Salary Schedule and the Weldon City Schools Board of Education policies and compensation plans.
