Financial Educator and Coach

Full-Time | 40 Hours/week | $30-$35/hour, depending on experience Hybrid | Vancouver, WA / Portland Metro area Reports to: Executive Director Save First, Live Well. We are looking for a Financial Educator and Coach who can both teach and connect . This is an opportunity for someone who loves working with people, enjoys teaching, understands personal finance and can make financial concepts feel practical and achievable. Our programs serve people at many different stages of life, from youth learning their first financial concepts to adults navigating debt, homeownership, retirement and financial challenges. About the Position The Financial Educator and Coach will provide financial education and coaching through Save First’s community, workplace, youth and partnership programs. You might teach a financial workshop to high school students one day, facilitate a workplace class the next and spend part of the following day coaching an individual who is trying to get out of debt or build an emergency fund. We are looking for someone who can adapt to all those settings. The right person will be an engaging educator, an excellent listener, a practical problem solver and someone who naturally builds trust. You don’t need to know everything on day one, but you do need to be curious, teachable, organized and genuinely interested in helping people make meaningful progress. Most importantly, this person must be able to build trust-filled relationships with people who may feel overwhelmed, discouraged or uncertain about their finances and help them see a path forward. What You’ll Do Day-to-Day Facilitate engaging, practical financial education classes, workshops and presentations for diverse audiences and age groups. Deliver Save First curriculum with consistency while adapting presentation and teaching methods to the needs of the audience. Teach topics such as budgeting and cash flow, savings, debt, credit, banking, financial decision making, consumer issues, homeownership, student loans, insurance, taxes and retirement. Create a welcoming environment where participants feel comfortable asking questions and learning from mistakes. Adapt teaching approaches for different learning styles, educational backgrounds, cultures and abilities. Deliver education in community workplace, school and other partner settings, both in person and virtually. Provide individual and small group financial coaching using the Save First coaching approach. Help participants identify goals, strengths, challenges, and next steps. Help participants translate financial education into realistic, achievable action steps. Support participants in developing greater confidence and financial capability without judgement or shame. Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and confidentiality. Document coaching interactions, participant progress, and outcomes in the organization’s CRM. Conduct participant intakes and assessments. Help participants identify resources that may support their financial and basic needs. Provide information, referrals, and resource navigation. Build relationships with community organizations, employers, schools, and other partners. Represent Save First professionally in the community. Participate in outreach and events that expand access to financial wellness services. Provide feedback on Save First curriculum and programs. Participate in program pilots and new initiatives. Support Save First’s train-the-trainer and practitioner development efforts. Participate in team meetings, professional development, and continuous quality improvement. Maintain accurate participant records and program documentation. What We’re Looking For Required Qualifications Experience teaching, facilitating, training, coaching or working directly with people. We especially value candidates who have experience teaching groups and know how to engage learners rather than simply present information. A degree in finance, education, behavioral science, social services or a related field is preferred, but equivalent professional experience will be considered. Experience with personal finance, financial education, financial coaching or a closely related field. Strong communication and presentation skills. The ability to explain complex ideas in simple, practical language. Excellent listening skills and the ability to build trusting relationships. A nonjudgmental, strengths-based approach to working with people. The ability to work effectively with people from different cultures, backgrounds, ages, and circumstances. Strong organizational skills and follow-through. The ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail. Sound judgement when handling confidential information. Comfort working independently and as part of a collaborative team. Willingness to learn, receive feedback and grow professionally. Comfort using technology for communication, documentation, virtual education and program delivery. We’d Especially Love to Meet You if You Have: Experience teaching youth, teens, young adults and/or older adults. Experience working with neurodivergent individuals or people with different learning styles or abilities. Conversational or fluent Spanish. Experience with financial coaching or counseling or financial education. Training in motivational interviewing, trauma-informed practice, strengths-based or similar approaches. Experience working with financially vulnerable or underserved populations. Experience developing or adapting curriculum. Experience with schools, employers, community organizations or faith communities. Experience with online learning platforms or virtual facilitation. Salesforce or similar database/CRM experience. $30-$35 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications . Full-time, 40 hours per week The position is based in the Vancouver, WA/Portland Metro area and includes a combination of remote, office, community, workplace and partner-site work. Some evening and weekend work will be required for classes, workshops and community events. Travel between program and partner locations is required.
