UCP Oregon is currently seeking a full-time caregiver “Personal Assistant” who will support a charming, older woman who lives in her own apartment in outer SE Portland and experiences developmental disabilities.

She is eager to work with a personal assistant who can help her build confidence traveling out in the community and help her discover and participate in new interests. She values both time spent at home as well as time out in the community, but she needs lots of encouragement to venture out. She also enjoys listening to music, watching TV and movies, online shopping, Starbucks, The Wizard of Oz, and flamingos.

Each day, you’ll assist with personal care and hygiene tasks, administering medications, cooking meals, and tidying up her apartment. She needs full assistance with activities of daily living such as showering/bathing, dressing, eating, and using her adaptive equipment. You’ll also assist in keeping her engaged in her interests and provide companionship and emotional support as she often needs support processing and regulating her emotions. Several nights per week she has difficulty sleeping through the night so you will likely need to check on her throughout the night during your shift to facilitate calming activities. 

Drivers are strongly preferred for this position, but you do not need to use your own vehicle to transport this customer. She will be transported in the the UCP accessible van for medical appointments and outings. She also utilizes TriMet Lift for outings. Training on safe use of the UCP van will be provided.

You’ll work one shift per week totaling 38 hours: 8am on Thursday through 10pm on Friday. *You’ll also work your regular hours on Agency holidays.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Be able to pass our pre-hiring screenings, including a reference check, a physical with a lifting test of 50lbs, and a criminal history background check.
• Drivers strongly preferred —if choosing to drive for UCP, you must be at least 18 years old, have a current driver’s license, at least two years of driving experience, and a clean driving record.
• To meet the client's personal privacy needs, female applicants will be given preference.
• Experience in the mental health or developmental disability field preferred, but not required.

Benefits

• $18.36 per hour. Annual wage increase based on satisfactory performance.
• Eligible for overtime pay for hours worked over 40 hours per week.
• Holiday pay (double pay for the first 12 hours of any agency holiday shift that you work).
