Registered Nurse (RN)

The Registered Nurse (RN) protects, promotes, and optimizes health and abilities. The RN prevents illness and injury and alleviates suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human responses. Advocacy in the care of individuals and families is a key responsibility of the RN. The RN is accountable for compliance with all standards of practice and professional development. The RN will promote a caring and healing environment for patient-centered care. Responsibilities include assessing, planning, delegating, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating nursing care. The RN will manage a group of patients, serving as a primary nurse and/or accountable nurse. Patient and family education in health promotion and disease management using available resources is essential. Knowledge of pharmacology is required for safe medication administration. The RN will share responsibility for productivity and effective resource utilization. Compliance with all nursing practice standards, regulatory requirements, and policies is mandatory. Actively participating in improvement initiatives and supporting peer review practices is expected. Professional development and completing mandatory education requirements are essential. The RN should integrate nursing research and current evidence into practice. Providing a supportive learning environment for new employees and students is part of the role. The RN will perform other duties as assigned. Skills required include collaboration, verbal and written communication, judgment, critical thinking, organizational understanding, planning, problem-solving, quality, reliability, safety, and risk management. Preferred experience includes clinical nursing in an acute care or ambulatory setting. Education required is a graduate of an accredited school of Nursing, with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing being preferred. Professional certification in a related nursing specialty is preferred. Relevant skills certification, such as ACLS, PALS, or TNCC, may be required based on unit assignment.
