Position Overview The Criminal Investigations Division encompasses all law enforcement and forensic components within the Department of Financial Services. The advertised position is for a Bureau of Workers’ Compensation Fraud detective. This is not a telework position; candidates will be required to work in the office. Key Responsibilities Conduct extensive investigations, including following up on leads, conducting interviews, executing search warrants, and making arrests. Conduct follow‑up latent investigations, interviewing witnesses, and interrogating suspects as appropriate to secure background information. Identify and arrest criminal suspects; prepare and present information and evidence to the prosecuting attorney. Provide expert testimony at legal proceedings and assist in the preparation of witnesses, victims, and evidence for the prosecution. Identify, recruit, document, and supervise confidential sources as per DIFS Policies and Procedures. Collect, seize, protect, maintain, transport, and document evidence consistent with statutes, current case law, and DIFS Policies and Procedures. Display sound surveillance techniques and undercover capabilities as needed. Provide investigative support to DIFS personnel and other public‑safety entities. Apply diverse knowledge and research methods. Develop strategic and tactical intelligence. Monitor arrests, prosecutions, and forfeitures; maintain liaison with the prosecutor. Conduct thorough background investigations on potential Department employees. Establish and maintain liaison with other entities. Perform disaster‑related duties as requested. Provide complete and accurate data collection, evaluation, and dissemination. Prepare and implement investigative plans. Allocate resources effectively to achieve case completion and manage expenditures. Develop case targets and meet goals, objectives, and assignments efficiently and on time. Perform other related duties as required. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent. Active Certified Florida Law Enforcement Officer qualified by passing the State of Florida Law Enforcement Certification Examination. Valid Florida Driver’s License at time of employment. Minimum of three (3) years sworn law enforcement experience. Good written and oral communication skills. Good mediation and negotiation skills. Document investigative activities in compliance with DIFS Policies and Procedures. Comply with all administrative documentation as prescribed by DIFS Policies and Procedures. Prepare logically comprehensive and grammatically correct reports. Flexibility to respond to change; ability to function as a team member and exhibit appropriate demeanor. Proficiency in maintaining state‑issued equipment and firearms in a safe manner per policies. Knowledge of current Florida Statutes, Administrative Code, policies, and procedures. Completed mandated training programs required by Florida Statutes, DFS, and DIFS. Provide training and technical assistance to new investigators. Knowledge of investigative and surveillance principles and techniques. Ability to work in dangerous and stressful situations and apply laws, rules, and regulations. Ability to gather and preserve evidence accurately. Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to interpret data, interview suspects, complainants, and witnesses. Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle. Correctional Officer or Correction Probational Officer certifications do not satisfy the job requirements. Preferred Qualifications A post‑secondary degree from an accredited college or university. Bilingual verbal and written skills that meet a critical need of the agency’s mission. College education can substitute one year of required experience at a rate of 30 semester or 45 quarter hours. Live no more than 50 miles from residence to assigned duty station. Competitive Area Differential (CAD) up to $5,000.00 for Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach Counties. Programs State and federal task forces participation. Community outreach. Honor Guard. Bomb Tech.
